Just finished the first episode and I thought it was :trash:.

They're trying WAY too hard to be dark and edgy IMO, it's just too much and doesn't really fit the source material.

So far Robin, Starfire, and Raven might as well just be OCs because they're basically nothing like the comic characters. I'll check out a few more episodes and see if it pics up.

I also thought it was kinda weird to have such a big age difference between Raven and Robin since in most portrayals they're around the same age. Here, Robin is in his mid-late 20s and Raven looks like she's in her mid teens at most. No biggie I guess, but weird as far as dynamics.

It would be a nitpick if that was her power in the comics and tv shows, but it isn't. As I mentioned, she isn't a human who turns orange ala the thing ring, shes an alien who's already orange...

That's like saying having a tv show wherein, Batman says a phrase and turns into the caped crusader is a nitpick....that's a huge disservice to the character and origin. So they kept Robin's and Raven's origin the same, but literally reinvented Starfire to be black and shoot fire out her hands? Bruh, that a whole new character. If that failed moment of writing is "nitpicking" to you, then you need to reevaluate your perception on what good writing is.

Virtually MOST live action comic book adaptions aren't accurate and can be reinterpreted. Why you acting brand new now? You do not even KNOW Starfire's origin because SHE DOESN'T KNOW. You are basically bytching about skin color.

Unless you are too much influenced in watching Teen Titans Go, you haven't read much of the comics which is MORE adult than light and friendly. Episode 2 ensures this is a HARD-R rated series, you just have to live with it.

I'm not expecting it to be like the cartoon or anything like that. Having a darker tone is fine.

But having Robin out here talking about "Fukk Batman" and inflicting gruesome injuries on criminals seems like they're trying a little too hard.

Having an adult tone is fine but the first episode kind of came off as them just putting in extra violence and cursing just to be edgy.

But you DO understand why he said "fukk Batman" and why his behavior is what it is, right? I mean he explains it and why he's trying to break away from what he has become. It's not for no reason, it's part of his current character arc. And again, if you feel the adult tone is forced, then get ready to know that the SECOND EPISODE guarantees you that this is the tone throughout and even more so in the language and the violence.

Again, I'm fine with the tone itself, my issue that it feels forced. When you want to write a show with a more mature tone it should be reflected in the setting itself and the situations the characters are in. Something like Gotham is an example.

If you try to create a darker tone by having the characters curse at every opportunity and be unnecessarily violent, that's when it comes off as forced.

Just finished the 2nd episode.

Overall I'd say it's an improvement, although the edginess is still kind of forced. That said I do have to take issue with the way they're writing Robin. Since when is Grayson a violent psychopath that doesn't work well with others? :dahell:

The actor himself is doing a good job....but the character he's playing isn't Dikk Grayson, it's somebody else. Maybe they'll justify it when we get more backstory, but I feel like if they wanted a violent psychopath Robin they should've just went with Jason Todd or Damian Wayne instead of writing Grayson in a way that's completely at odds with his comic character.

You got Starfire and Raven murking people, Beast Boy using his powers to commit petty crimes, and Robin being a violent psychopath. Seems like the writers forgot the characters are supposed to be heroic.

Starfire being black instead of orange has nothing to do with the show's writing. :mjlol:

It's such a small thing. I don't care that Star isn't orange anymore than I care that Jason Momoa as Aquaman isn't blonde. :yeshrug:

Since he hung around Batman for far too long why is why he left him because he's becoming to be like him.

Reading comprehension is important. Pay attention; ORIGIN....I could give a fukk if she's black, blue, green or purple. ACCURACY is what I'm talking about. Tell me you're not this dumb.

Considering its an origin story, then yes, her fire powers/being a black hooker are up for discussion, especially since they're all wrong. So let me guess, if Black Panther was a white dude, who shot fire out his hands, it would be a "small thing" to you? You're cherry picking and or moving the goalposts. I'm not talking about a color swap ala Wilson Fisk or Nick Fury, I'm talking about their presentation/accuracy. Fisk is never portrayed as a 5'5 skinny dude in a white suit, the same way Nick Fury isn't a guy with long surfer hair, who summons guns from out of the air.

They made "Starfie" a completely different character, with completely different powers...if you haven't grasped my point by now, just move on.

Black Panther's race is central to his character, so it's not the same thing. A better comparison would have Killmonger being played by an actor who's like 6'4 and 245 lbs, and guess what? That didn't matter either.

I grasp your point fine. I just think it's silly. :yeshrug:

Yeah I never went in expecting Starfire to be orange. That shyt would silly as fukk in a show with the atmosphere this show has :russ:

But as far as her powers go, is the animated show your only exposure to the character cause

Reading IS comprehension because I again said:
You do not even KNOW Starfire's origin because SHE DOESN'T KNOW. You are basically bytching about skin color.

Her origin isn't even ADDRESSED yet! Again, you are basically bytching about skin color.
