Access to clean water and sanitation is a challenge in Nigeria, especially in the north:

  • Access: While about 70% of Nigerians have access to a basic water source, only 80% had access to an improved drinking water source in 2022. This means that the water source is within 30 minutes of travel time, including queuing.

  • Quality: More than half of the water sources in Nigeria are contaminated.

  • Quantity: On average, Nigerians only have access to nine liters of water per day.

  • Sanitation: 48 million people in Nigeria defecate in the open.

  • Handwashing: Only 8% of the population practices safe handwashing.

  • Waterborne diseases: The lack of clean water and sanitation contributes to the high prevalence of waterborne diseases like cholera.

  • Climate change: Climate change is making it more difficult to access water, and is putting fragile water supplies at risk of disappearing.
To improve access to clean water, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is working with local governments and the private sector to increase access to safe water and sanitation. Rainwater harvesting is another way to save drinking water resources.
When you have money in Nigeria, these things aren't your problem.

He’s correct. America is the place to be. No place on earth is perfect. Africans trying to go to USA, Canada, or Europe. Black Americans are privileged and don’t know what we got.

yeah thats just Nigeria. Aint nobody wanna live there.
Nigeria is one of the most powerful African nations and they’re a mess.

:laff:

Breh, why does anybody build anything anywhere?

Nah, your question is valid.

If not Black People than global conglomerates will be happy to fill in those spaces. Not a big demand for resort hotels in Philly, I don't think.

The amount of opportunity in Africa with 1.3 billion people that are increasing their middle classes is vast. They are tapping in right now.

Skyscrapers are a physical indicator of growth. Doesn't mean everyone is getting rich, but just a decent manifestation of what is happening in a city/country. Africa is having a boom in urban verticality, finally catching up to other developing countries. Long winded answer to why Africa and not Philly, b/se the opportunity to build and develop is extremely rich right now in Africa.

^^This is why although, I respect the FBA lineage argument by Tariq, it's insular and harmful in terms of FBA expanding opportunities.

The question is you got opportunity in your own country and you’re making luxury shyt in a foreign nation. It’s suspect and not helping out your own. This is why I’m skeptical to back to Africa movements. In a way it is a different form of c00nery. It’s wild to make things for strangers and not the people that brought you up. Philly doesn’t have a market for luxury hotels so instead of helping Philly which is full of black people, they’re over there doing this for strangers. It’s baffling. I’ve seen black folks travel to Ghana and build libraries for them and parade it on social media when black kids in America are struggling to read.

Focusing on Africa when our own people are suffering is abject foolishness. I give African nations kudos and absolutely celebrate cooperated effort but when black Americans put a lot of focus on building Africa up when your momma, poppa, grandma, granddaddy all the way down to the ancestors before the civil war settled and struggled on this land I pause. Making luxury hotels and wanting a pat on the fukking back when the people in the neighborhood you were raised in are probably struggling. It’s c00nery and putting Africanism on a pedestal.
