There have been stories of tourists dying in the DR for seemingly the past month. I wouldn't say they've been highly publicized though. First it was a couple from NY that disappeared and it turned out they had an accident while driving to try and make their flight. Then it was a woman who was beaten and strangled at the resort she was staying at with her husband. After that it was a couple who died in their room under suspicious circumstances; medical officials in DR said they had respiratory failure. There have been subsequent reports of similar deaths; people have seen how similar the circumstances have been and have started speaking up, especially since they've been saying that the government in DR has been less than cooperative.

It was never on the list for me. After I read about how that treated and felt about Haitians then the D.R. became a country that I wrote off. It didn't help that Sammy Sosa changed from being a Black man into something else.
