What's going on in the DR lately? They haven't been receiving the greatest press in the past month.

These stories have people thinking everywhere in DR is horrible.

Let people in DR watch American news and maybe they might see that the US had 43 mass shootings in the month of May alone.

I can name 5 people off the top of my head who I know who have been to DR over the past 7-10 years ... and there are actually MANY threads ON HERE about traveling to DR dating back several years ... so much so , that some of the more recent posts in those threads are talking about how DR has historically been a budget, pseudo “exotic” travel spot off the continental U.S.

Where are you from? I can name 0 people off the top of my head who have ever been to DR. It's just not a thing on the west coast.

But the original goalpost is that most Americans don't know shyt about the DR. I stand by that. Most Americans still don't even own a passport.

My family back home always tell me I'm crazy to live in America. Cops, mass shootings, racism, etc. People know how to operate day to day there and don't feel unsafe.

Home is home at the end of the day. I can't fault players for going back because shyt thats what we all want to do.

I live in VA and I'm retired military. nikkas who don't leave the country aren't going to know about most places outside of their fukking porch. Saying most people don't know about something is a silly argument to have in the first place. Most people don't know shyt about shyt.

Since that's what I was saying, I agree it's pretty silly to argue it.

My point was that this is the only time that DR has been all over the national news like that, it's not a country most people know anything about. Those folk seeing these DR stories popping up on the telly one after the other ain't got any other reference point. It's not like it's Mexico or Brazil or Jamaica or Thailand or any other country that they have pop culture associations with. DR is a blank slate and a lot of them are gonna put this on it.

You go up to 100 Americans tomorrow and ask them "Tell me three things you know about DR", 90% of the ones who have any answer at all are gonna say something about people getting killed/shot there.

I’m from the South... and I still disagree .. you literally have at least 3 posters in this thread saying they’d been and/or planning trips to the DR.


And I’m all for bashing Americans’ ignorance , but this isn’t the thing to do it on.

All that said, I love the DR. And will alwasy go back. Its not Caracas or San Salvador.
