I haven't been fukking with most of these Netflix drops and was ready to tell breh to disappear for another 10 years, but this was actually good. The stories were šŸ”„ and of course he in his bag when he weaving in & outta of em with subtle jokes here and there. Pics at the end we're dope too. Especially the ones wit Lil Nas X & cuh in the wheelchair all things considered lol

I agree with pretty much everything you said, but just know this thread might go left because of your last two sentences.

Besides being a SOHH spin-off site this place is basically a Nas fansite

But the sentiment is correct. He needs younger comedians around him. Young beasts. Younger people. And not to ā€œwriteā€ for him, but almost to see what theyā€™re talking about, see what the audience is connecting to, and then to essentially respond to and bounce off those talking points but in his way, from a mature and more left-field perspective.

But its hard to critique or even simply discuss Dave in any real way because he means so much to people, and he's essentially become above reproach so I tend to just leave it alone, watch, laugh when I can and KIM unless I'm talking to the few people I know who wanna think or talk about this shyt on another level.
Im sure he knows what younger comedians are talking about. standup comedians are always around one another because they perform at the same places trying new material

Excellent.

Seemed to bring all the other material together.

Wasn't so morose as some. He seemed chipper not somber.

He included some of the more conversational kind of serious stuff.

I think his message is: anybody can get it. He even clowned Chris Rock, his idol and homie. As a comedian he's gonna joke above everything else. On anyone. But also that whoever thinks they have it bad, usually they consider themselves better than Black people. As much consideration as every group is demanding, anti Black racism has barely budged.

It was ok. Opening joke about Jim Carrey was prolly the best. But also quite a few cringey moments. He's just not the writer he once was. But at this stage of his career he doesn't really need to be. His fanbase is strong. He can pretty much say anything and have the crowd rolling over in laughter.

I Wouldn't really put him up there with the best comics in the world anymore. But truthfully I don't think there's many great comedians today. The last comedian who I considered special was Patrice. I was watching elephant in the room the other day and was just blown away. Dude was really going to be next up. He was basically everything that Chapelle is but way better in every category. And his comedy woulda been more relevant than ever today. It's shame he left so young. Smh.

You had me the first paragraph then lost me in the second. I feel like Iā€™m in bizzaro world when I hear this Patrice hype. Maybe itā€™s like rappers once they die everyone claims they would have been the GOAT.

It was a decent special, but it didn't have the magic of Sticks and Stones and the Closer

Sticks & Stones and The Closer were like one like stand up special split into two. Dave put a LOT of thought into those two specials and it shows

The Dreamer is like an epilogue to those two.

Also it may be just me but it seems like Dave has been subtly admitting that those Azalea Banks rumors are true lol

Started off slow and a bit shaky. Too much trans/handicap stuff early, if he would have kept it to the Jim Carrey joke and the one about going to prison would have worked better. But it was really good after like the first 15mins. When Dave gets into story telling mode itā€™s what sets him apart from the pack so the Chris Rock and Hollywood Bowl stuff was excellent. I enjoyed it, nice way to start off the year

Patrice legacy benefits greatly from his short career and his death. I donā€™t think Elephant in the room touches For What itā€™s worth or Age of Spin. But to each his own.

People alwyas say this but Patrice is one of the few comedians that we have countless hours from. He was on like 130 OnA episodes and they basically made those episodes about him. You can hear him joke about any subject you van think of.
