Yea for sure. The handicap cap stuff was super cringey. And not because it was offensive, but because it was just flat out bad. Like comic view level bad. And there were many other jokes like that throughout. And Dave has always had corny stuff in his specials but now it's just getting uncomfortable.

But Dave said it himself...he's considered a "lazy" comic by other comedians now. As long as 4 people are laughing he's fine with that. So he's pretty much admitting he's not all the way in anymore. Watching Dave is how I feel watching a great comedy show that loses touch and almost becomes a caricature of itself.

But maybe Dave really just doesn't know how to be funny like that anymore. Some people just forget how to connect those dots. They forget how to take a joke from being simply good to amazing. Left brain shyt. Some people just lose that ability over time. I think all writers go through it at some point. Dave still drops a great joke here and there, but his hit rate is at an all time low. The highs aren't as high as they used to be and the lows are lower than ever. I think Dave should start bringing some of the younger hungrier comics on tour with him. Surround himself with the younger minds in the scene. Same way Nas brought in guys like stic man and Lupe when he started losing his sharpness with the pen. Sometimes you gotta be around those young guys to keep yourself on point.
Super pedestrian special

mostly survives off character

The handicap stuff was hilarious and the crowd was dying. You must have forgot Dave made crippled jokes on Chappelle show. Also, how can he not be on all the way in when he probably tours more than any other comedian?

The people on this site that I find to be super critical of Dave usually have a hidden agenda. :patrice:

I agree with pretty much everything you said, but just know this thread might go left because of your last two sentences.

Besides being a SOHH spin-off site this place is basically a Nas fansite

But the sentiment is correct. He needs younger comedians around him. Young beasts. Younger people. And not to “write” for him, but almost to see what they’re talking about, see what the audience is connecting to, and then to essentially respond to and bounce off those talking points but in his way, from a mature and more left-field perspective.

But its hard to critique or even simply discuss Dave in any real way because he means so much to people, and he's essentially become above reproach so I tend to just leave it alone, watch, laugh when I can and KIM unless I'm talking to the few people I know who wanna think or talk about this shyt on another level.

Initially I thought this one was the best one he’s put out since the first 2 he did when he really came back on the scene.

Handicap stuff is cringey but overall solid. The mood doesn’t seem to be as tense as some of the last ones

Gonna watch this tonight. I saw him when he was in Chicago and it was hilarious to me. Curious if there are any jokes he told in this that he didn’t do back when I saw him.

Pretty meh tbh, some laughs but his weakest imo, the attack story was the highlight, he also needs to drop the trans stuff, he just doesn't have an original or creative take on the whole thing anymore, it peaked with the car analogy imo.

It was ok. Opening joke about Jim Carrey was prolly the best. But also quite a few cringey moments. He's just not the writer he once was. But at this stage of his career he doesn't really need to be. His fanbase is strong. He can pretty much say anything and have the crowd rolling over in laughter.

I Wouldn't really put him up there with the best comics in the world anymore. But truthfully I don't think there's many great comedians today. The last comedian who I considered special was Patrice. I was watching elephant in the room the other day and was just blown away. Dude was really going to be next up. He was basically everything that Chapelle is but way better in every category. And his comedy woulda been more relevant than ever today. It's shame he left so young. Smh.

I agree with your first part, but that Patrice convo is for another thread.

This stand up showed Dave is still on top of his game when he wants to be but those easy jokes like the handicap or titanic joke fall flat when Nick Mullen can do them so much better.

Richard Pryor and George Carlin at the end were known more for their political commentary than their jokes and I think that’s where Dave is at now.

This was okay.

I think Dave mainly did this special as a quick "Check up" kinda like when a rapper puts out a "Freestyle" to hold their fanbase over until something big happens.
