exactly.. thread on some “Yess! Someone finally standing up to the LGBT community” when the subtext indicates that he actually respects and stands behind their movement.. seems a bit ‘integrate-ish’ ..I don’t think ppl picking up on that

People are still being irresponsible with his comedy.

A lot of cacs latched on to Dave during this run because he looked like he was swinging a big blazing sword to slay the PC Dragon. Those who are peeping shyt from a surface level might have thought Dave was on their side and he never was.

It’s all g breh.. I just didn’t think it was funny, which would actually make that stale topic from him a little more insightful. But each his own.

"I knew your father, he was a wonderful woman"

That joke didn't make me laugh, I smiled though and I felt a sense of respect, of completion. Which was big for me because I was hoping that Dave spoke on what happened with Daphne because he was mad quiet when it happened in real time. People were blaming him and a lot of the people who missed the point of Dave's comedy were defending him at her expense and kinda cheering on just kinda chalking that up to mental illness as long as being anti-PC isn't taking a hit.

He put that shyt to bed in a beautiful way IMO and that sense of completion, of closure was more important than a laugh.

These last few specials is Dave fighting for comedians to be able to joke about anything.

Back in the 90s early 2000s you could make jokes about everybody, think about Sarah Silverman in black face on tv, def comedy jam, all the gay jokes of that era... Now you gotta be real careful or you may lose pieces of your career. I believe Dave got caught off guard after his first Netflix special that things done changed when he got some backlash, now he's leaning into it and not letting go.

Its important that someone who doesn't care about being cancelled is out here defending comedy and calling out groups who made it illegal to call them out, but I can see how its a turnoff for fans who want more variety of material.

I don’t even know how you can defend Kevin hart. The guy wasn’t joking when he legit said he’d kill his gay son. That sort of shyt isn’t comedy.

This dude is the epitome of safe space, whitewashed jokes. He can miss me with all of that. This is basically a “leave the gays alone” tweet. If he was cracking jokes about black people, everyone would be saying how funny it is.

Also, these twitter personalities are personally offended by Dave saying they don’t matter, which they don’t. Dragonfly Jonez has ZERO presence anywhere except twitter. He’s a hit dog hollering.

I think you’re reading it wrong. That whole special was about how LGTB is punching down on black people, women and society in general. That’s why he said he was negotiating the baby’s release. And called himself a feminist.

He told vicious jokes about all groups but the only ones who will actively cancel him are LGTB. He’s not worried about Space Jews.

The only part I didn’t like was how he tried to use his trans friend as a shield. The equivalent of an accused racist saying they have one black friend.

It’s very revealing how sensitive the world has become over the last 20 years. In a couple years this special might be completely pulled like all of Louis CK’s work, but for different historical reasons.
If he'd said, "I can't be transphobic, I have a trans friend" Then he would have been using her as a shield. Instead he went in depth about his experience with and feelings toward someone he considered a friend. I don't think that should be diminished and dismissed as him using her as a shield. That's just my two cents on that.

More than one thing can be true at a time.. points were made.. they were witty, funny as hell and was delivered perfectly. at the same time, he was heavy handed with the identity politics (considering that most of his overarching points were covered before) that dragged longer than needed.. I was a lil exhausted hearing the words Tranny, gay, lesbian and dikk over and over for an hour.

I think the Trans community should appreciate him for that bit. He humanized them in a manner I've never heard or seen anyone non-trans ever do.

How are people shocked about what Dave Chappelle is saying.

When the man for the last 20 years has said that Paul Mooney and dikk Gregory are his idols. Plus that he patterned his comedy, pauses, smoking on stage and rhythm patterns after dikk Gregory. While also saying that Paul Mooney was his mentor on how to navigate hollywood and entertainment.

Dave said one of the people he talked with before leaving the chappelle show was Mooney. Who told him basically if you can walk away from all that money you are telling them(hollywood) they can never own you or compromise you.

dikk and Paul were controversial in their time when it came to subjects (hell paul till the day he died). So if a man says these were his idols why are you shocked by the comedy he does?

Or is shyt only funny when the jokes are directed at only black people?
