Reflecting on this, the problem with Darkseid is that all writers don't adhere to the Morrison retcon or Kirby's original concept. According to them, Darkseid is more of an extra-dimensional, metaphysical entity that manifests in the DC Universe through avatars. That Darkseid is far more powerful than Thanos with no buffs. The issue is that most writers tend to throw that out the window and use Darkseid as a physical threat where what you see is what you get.
Even the more recent portrayals ignore the Kirby/Morrison metaphysical aspect. For Example, Justice League: Odyssey treats the Darkseid that we see on the page as the actual character and not an avatar that the character is acting through. Due to the inconsistency in how the character is written, it makes him kind of hard to peg down without a bunch of qualifiers.
