Daniel Kaluuya's accent in this Fred Hampton movie bothers me...

I love Daniel’s acting
But the first time I saw that preview, the voice was off-putting AF, not gonna lie

I just assumed that that’s the way the real-life character spoke otherwise it just sounds ridiculous

I thought the same thing from the previews... he sounds like a parody of someone being pro black.

He actually researched that role and hung around folks from the area as preparation tho.

Daniel Kaluuya... good actor but says he's tired of discussing race then takes on the type of role that deals with race. His attitude comes off in his performance... but I'll wait till I see the movie to fully judge his performance.
Well if that's all the roles you can get..

It’s funny you mentioned Larenz Tate cause that was the choice I had in my head for Hampton when I first heard about this movie being made. He might have bodied the role and he’s from the Chi as well.
Larenz Tate is one of those black folks who might be 65 but still looks like he’s in his twenties. Breh been around forever and a day it seems. The inkwell is almost 30 years old

The accent “issue” did not warrant a thread to be made. All OP did was give energy for the diaspora world nutcases to bicker back and forth throwing pointless jabs at each other :francis:

As far as the movie goes. I think it was just good for what it is being an HBO produced movie. No real big budget was put into this so I didn't expect Grade-A filmmaking.

I honestly expected the thread to stay on topic of the accent when I first made it

Although I did see where it was going after the first couple of posts, it was too late at that point. :francis:

I did try to get the thread back on topic multiple times to no avail :francis:

Hmm.. Wjy do yhey get them to play us?

Do we ever get to play them in Roles? I'd like to hear them terrible British accents

:russ:

This is how I feel when Americans try to play non American characters. Most of the time the accents are horribly done and too unauthentic.

Americans play foreign characters all the time and we clown them for their accents

And they stay getting those roles anyway.

Sean Connery and Harrison Ford as Soviet submarine captains might be the all-time :mjlol: in terms of how bad their accents were.

Yeah i learned that like a month ago. Blew my mind too

Yet here you sit, poppin shyt on an American forum:unimpressed:

Like when??

Don Cheadle in Hotel Rwanda?

Denzel and Robert Townsend in Mighty Quin and Denzel in Biko
Eddie Murphy and cast in Coming to America
Angelina Jolie and the whole cast in Alexander(Alexander the Great)
The villain in Black Hawk Down
Tommy Lee Jones trying to speak Native in a movie I can't remember the name
Will Smith in Concusion

Don Cheadle did a generic African accent, it was not authentically Rwandan, but it sufficed for an American audience. IT wasn't bad but usually most American actors are horrible with accents.

I could go on and on and on and on and on and on and on....
