It doesn't, but he should mention his boss along with it when mentioned Skip and SAS because he gave them at platform to help make TV what it is now. Dan has benefitted from it just as much as the people he's complaining about.

ESPN has already showed people that they're more entertainment based rather than the focus on actual journalism, so it shouldn't be surprised that they focus on those type of debate shows more.
And Skipper brought on Pablo, Mina Kimes, Izzy, Lebatard, Bomani, and others sports journalist/content creators fans swear give them the content they want. Yet, they don’t watch it and constantly complain when those folks are on their screen. But they’ll tune in for First Take or repost on SM the dumb discussions from the show.

That strain of braindead hot take bullshyt existed before Skip and SAS but they took it to another level on television. We've all listened to sports radio at some point and heard the same type of arguments and behavior before First Take. The good cop/bad cop radio dynamic, the white host/black host dynamic, all of it.

I would say that they ruined sports media on television though, and it has also resulted in sports radio doubling down on hot takes. The result is very disingenuous, ugly, contentious sports content that is largely focused more on fostering white resentment than sports discussion.

Sports radio is almost unlistenable now between this and the nonstop gambling segments.
That's why I've said that BET or TV One should have had a sports show that covers topics from a black perspective because sports media has been one sided since 1996.

Dan just wants to have his cake and eat it too. He hates serious talk around sports (that doesn't involves a societal issue) and made an incredibly profitable radio career out of making fun of it. But he has always scowled at people making a profitable career out of making serious sports talk into pro wrestling fukkery :manny:
The comment by LeBatard is not because he hates serious sports talk.

It’s that SAS & Skip literally do not have serious sports talk.

SAS has said this in the past, and said it later on in this same interview when he was talking about not wanting to work with Kellerman.

SAS & Skip legit, at least on their shows, do not want nuance, context, or deeper discussion to occur.

They rather themselves and co-hosts engage in absolutism, pick a side and stick to it no matter what. That is how they entertain their base audience.

LeBatard on the other hand, gave Bomani Jones a platform (before HQ, he had Bo as a rotating co-host on the radio show) that Bo eventually leapfrogged from.

Same time, he had SVG as another rotating co-host. Another person who explains context. He’s boosted other people that are in the same vein.

Funny thing is, for the most part, outside of interviews, LeBatard isn’t that good at “serious” nuances sport discussions himself. He’s said that of himself quite a few times, but it’s something he thinks the media (at large) should aspire to.

I hate that dan le batard and their ilk think journalism is the default for sports coverage. Its a game at the end of the day. its for entertainment have fun with it. stop taking shyt so serious.
This has been going on since the beginning so people are used to it but if you think about it objectively its kinda goofy.
Youtubers who cover video games are make reactions to tv shows are doing the same thing, but nobody take them serious as journalist because people understand its just hobbys and fandom.
these journalists, they take themselves too serious. its why i will always enjoy kenny ernie and chuck over anything at espn.

This is disingenuous by Stephen A.

“When you broach that type of question, without context or historical backdrop”

:russ:In the same interview, LeBatard literally asked him why he got fired from ESPN, and they went thru the whole rundown. And the climate of the situation.

LeBatard asked him how he felt about trying to be made the face of being anti-female.

And then later on, SAS himself said he doesn’t want actual discussions on the show, so had to get rid of Max.

But this is what SAS does, and now he got another viral clip :pachaha:right or wrong, nikka is elite at what he does.

Sports journalism is still journalism though. As a journalist, you don't give a subject less scrutiny or deference just because it may not affect people's everyday lives.

I remember taking a sports journalism course years ago in college. I had two seasoned old-school principled journalism professors, and one of them had covered sports in his career for years along with local/national reporting on crime, politics, etc. If your job is to inform the public you should do so from the standpoint of ethics and professionalism that the vocation demands, even if you're just covering a HS volleyball game.

Only thing I hate about Stephen A and I blame ESPN as well, this nikka has no idea what he’s talking about outside of basketball talk… it’s a pain listening to him talk about boxing, he has no idea about, football talk is terrible , mma discussions be bad as well

Espn keeps him going because of sucking up to players and he can play the media game well

Ultimately people hate when you’re successful.
I wouldn't necessarily call it hate for a lot of sports talent, but more so annoyance. I can believe that a lot of those talent want no part of showing up on FT and dealing with SAS, but only doing it because they can't turn the appearance down. Even someone like Paul Finebaum visibily gets annoyed with SAS. He can say it's entertainment, but a lot of those talent could care less about that.

His work ethic is legendary, but it gets cringeworthy at times listening to him talk about certain topics and surely he has to realize that schtick won’t work outside of sports which is his end goal as other celebrities won’t be too kind in their reactions.

Hot takes came out because of the internet
Nobody gave AF about skip or SAS until the internet and social media started to become a sound board for their takes.
Skip only really became a huge figure in sports media after Tebow had his run in the NFL

He was not hugely popular taking Lebron to task but what really blew him up was his contrarian takes on Tebow, Brady, the cowboys, and Lebron that blew them up on social media

Everyone else was just following their lead where all the commentary is on the talking heads reactions

Its less about talking about the game and more what narrative is around the game/player/person

Sports media is now strictly about opinions there's no real room to analytics or analysis.
