Stephen A has to be taken in doses.
Definitely!

When it was him and Skip on First Take for one day a week it was gold.

But you can't have Stephen A all the time it just too much!!

ESPN fell into that trap and now we all have to deal with this guy non stop and it's too much!

I don't watch ESPN anymore

I find that SAS clap back was right on point. Le Batard ain’t no bastion of journalistic integrity who shirked at debate and entertainment. That muthafukka did Highly Questionable for HOW many years?!?!

fukk him and his mama
Where was he touting that?

I dont think he even sees himself on the level of popularity of Sassy A for that to be a point.

Sports journalism is still journalism though. As a journalist, you don't give a subject less scrutiny or deference just because it may not affect people's everyday lives.

I remember taking a sports journalism course years ago in college. I had two seasoned old-school principled journalism professors, and one of them had covered sports in his career for years along with local/national reporting on crime, politics, etc. If your job is to inform the public you should do so from the standpoint of ethics and professionalism that the vocation demands, even if you're just covering a HS volleyball game.
its corny. sports is just a game, not current events or politics. We don't need journalists for entertainment, we need entertainers for entertainment.
I always felt like they should fire every journalist and replace them with comedians that have sports backgrounds. Spice adams types should be the face of sports shows not dan le batards. having a background reporting crime doesn't make you a good game show host. Thats what this is, a show about a game, aka a game show. Look at the type of people we have hosting most game shows, steve harvey types, not don lemons.

Then why is Stephen A Smith lying that he doesn’t break journalistic tenants? He’s not a journalist and he needs to admit being so. A journalist doesn’t go onto the television saying hunter henry is a weapon for a team he left a season ago. They would actually research before coming onto tv.

He needs to stop claiming he’s a fukking journalist, because no one in any journalism school will teach what he does as a form of journalism

That tells me more than anything that he doesn’t do any show prep before he gets on air as even someone like TK has admitted that they use interns for a lot of their talking points.

I think even Skip criticized him for it at one point.,

He considers himself a journalist because of his background writing for the Philadelphia Enquirer and the NY Daily News

he is dropping those considerations when hes performing as he is on TV.

I minored in journalism. Nothing that he is doing is standard journalism practice.

The SPJ states the following:

should:

Take responsibility for the accuracy of their work. Verify information before releasing it. Use original sources whenever possible.

Remember that neither speed nor format excuses inaccuracy.

Provide context. Take special care not to misrepresent or oversimplify in promoting, previewing or summarizing a story.

Gather, update and correct information throughout the life of a news story.

Be cautious when making promises, but keep the promises they make.

Identify sources clearly. The public is entitled to as much information as possible to judge the reliability and motivations of sources.

Consider sources’ motives before promising anonymity. Reserve anonymity for sources who may face danger, retribution or other harm, and have information that cannot be obtained elsewhere. Explain why anonymity was granted.

Diligently seek subjects of news coverage to allow them to respond to criticism or allegations of wrongdoing.

Avoid undercover or other surreptitious methods of gathering information unless traditional, open methods will not yield information vital to the public.

Be vigilant and courageous about holding those with power accountable. Give voice to the voiceless.

Support the open and civil exchange of views, even views they find repugnant.

Recognize a special obligation to serve as watchdogs over public affairs and government. Seek to ensure that the public’s business is conducted in the open, and that public records are open to all.

Provide access to source material when it is relevant and appropriate.

Sassy A does NOT bring these tenants to the table on that show.

Hes an entertainer and needs to stop lying that hes a journalist. He dropped that tag years ago

It is not SAS or Bayless fault their success produced so many copycats though. They simply put out a product rather than tried to remake sports media. To then say he hates what they did is a bit much.

There’s a reason SAS and Skip are still around. Prop up the hood journalists as much as you hate those two. They want you to hate them because it helps them get paid.

Audience gravitates towards what they gravitated to. There was a more serious sports discussion show called Sports Reporters, that was hosted by the late John Saunders.

Aired Sunday mornings because the general ESPN audience was not interested. Used to watch it every week after working out. Kept me aware of what was happening in sports during the week.
I used to live that show.
