2012 was a lock out shortened season in response to the Big 3 team up. The Rose rule was made if a guy was in the first few years and won MVP or DPOY the would receive a special max by the team that drafted them they later made all NBA teams go with that as well. The salary cap then was 75 million the big three took pay cuts with Bosh making the most at 16 million a year. Bron was able to stay there 4 years the changes in the cap rising but new luxury tax rules is the reason why KD was able to go to the Warriors but only for three years they were so deep in the tax they couldn’t add anybody (remember they got Jordan Bell because they paid cash).
KD leaving gave them some cap relief but he did a sign and trade when he left the Warriors tanked the next two seasons.
AD was on the open market and wanted to go to LA no other team had a shot for the reasons I mentioned in the CBA one team for example was the Celtics because of Kyrie being a all nba award guy and still under 30 the only way the Celtics could’ve gotten AD was a trade after the season in July.
All this loyal talk is a scam you are forced to be with the team that drafted you minimum seven years the better you are the more money you can make by staying because of the CBA rules but they changed them again more recently with this double luxury tax apron so now we’ve just seen the Denver Nuggets lose three of the eight guys who helped them win the chip.
No team has gone back to back since the KD Warriors so from that view there’s parity the skill level is higher than it’s ever been but it’s going to be more mixed with these new rules in 2026 Dame will make 63.2 Million in salary with the cap being 156.5 Million if he making that much how much are the owners really making

I don’t see how you can demand a trade without a no trade clause and make a demand only to get traded to one particular team like you have any leverage. That makes zero sense for Portland.
