I wonder about that too. I fukked with his mixtapes.

Dr.Dre had a bunch of talent rappers on Aftermath but they disappeared it. The problem is Dr.Dre is a horrible at it how he handle his artists.

No doubt but it's a little bit of his fault too it seems

I just think Dre/Interscope dont work well with regular emcees that aint gangsta rappers/formulaic. They're used to a formula & when you
dont fit that then they dont know how to market you, especially if you plan on hittin the mainstream.

Look at the "unsuccessful" rappers under Dre/Interscope - Stat Quo, Rakim, Bishop, Hittman etc - all non gangsta rappers.

Eminem obviously isnt a gangsta rapper but his "gimmick" was that he was white & was goin at all the pop stars. That along with a HUGE machine to make him become rap's Elvis (even tho Eminem can rhyme very well!) to make profit off the largest demographic in the US (aka white people)

Kendrick blows this argument up tho. Ironically Dre wasn't sold on Kendrick out the gate. He liked the music Kendrick was doing before he signed...but once they started recording he wasn't blown away by the records and didn't know whether Kdot was going to win. I left Interscopre right before GKMC came out. People forget that they were trying to force hits on him, Lupe style. Passing him tracks. Gaga was gonna be on BDKMV, Rocky's single (fukking Problems) was made for Kendrick, etc. But as with Cole, he ended up knocking it out the park sales wise because he had a fanbase. And the rest is history.

Bishop Lamont didn't blow because he was an a$$hole and wasn't working up to Dre's standards. Dre is the type of dude who thinks working in a studio 5-10 hours a day on music that will never come out is "working hard." He wants dudes to write hooks, 16s, etc etc all day for him...and then work on their own music. Bishop was tired of that shyt, understandably, but he also wasn't putting in the work on his own project. And then of course when you violate other expectations/rules/laws without the clout of success to save your ass...you get kicked out.

The same thing that happened to most of the other non-Eminem/50/Kendrick Aftermath artists, developmental hell. I bought his album that fiiiiiiinally came out. It was pretty good though a bit dated sounding.

Rakim said it's actually Jimmy Iovine. He said when he first signed to Dre, Dre told him that Jimmy likes to cut off rappers who he feels ain't gonna blow. So Dre might fukk with you, sign you, give you a little work (beats, help, producers to work with) but when Jimmy comes in, he's on some "why the fukk we paying this nikka, he ain't shyt" Game almost caught that bullet too but 50 saved him. Even Dre said he was about to be out of there even though he was working his ass off, he didn't have a hit

Jimmy was the boss over there at Interscope too.

Appreciate your input bro. +1.

Yeah as said early i kinda see ur point about Bishop being an a$$hole. Cuz thats how he came off.

Im not sure when Kendrick really signed for Interscope. I was following him & Rock very very early. Im talking from '06. But Kendrick
really started to bubble some buzz around Section 80. Unless im unaware, he wasn't signed to Interscope at the time - at least officially.

So Interscope/Dre didn't really have to do much with him to present him IMO. Largely thnx to the internet era he blew up in. Had GKMC not been a good/great project i doubt Kendrick would still be on Interscope still. Cuz it wasnt like he had hit singles & all. It was word of mouth based on the project being really dope that spread.

So maybe hes an exception to the rule.
