You're right, it made no sense to stay and further engage after the gun was drawn...BUT

There is a human element to consider. Imagine you go pick your child up at the mutually agreed time and get told by another man to get back in your car and go home without your child or knowledge of their whereabouts. That's a big pill to ask any grown man to swallow regardless of the circumstance. Not saying the guy who got killed was right...his choices obviously had disastrous consequences, but I won't judge him too hard all things considered.
