the logic is treating and living with covid is costly and a temporary suspension of movement for non-emergencies is less expensive in the long run.

But the thing is covid isn't going away, and we might have new variants for the foreseeable future. :ld:

You know what's costly, crippling people's social lives and isolating them from their friends, just because a very mild variant is spreading to a highly vaxed country. :ld:

Now you may say "we have to protect ppl w/ waning immunity", great that's why there's a booster for eligible ppl to take, and said booster reduces your risk of hospitalization or death. :ld:

The vaccines aren't as effective against Omicron.

It appears that Omicron is less deadly and less likely to cause hospitalization than Delta(based on cases in SA). In addition to the above, Omicron seems to produce very mild symptoms (headache; fatigue, sore throat,).

Someone catching covid is irrelevant, as it appears damn near all of us will get it eventually.

it's not going away because too many people refuse to take preventative measures to insure it doesn't spread any further. new variants are bound to follow if more people keep getting and spreading covid.

peoples social lives won't mean much if their family or friends keep getting ill and attending annual funerals become their norm before their even senior age.

the vaccine was developed around the alpha variant spike protein and has provided decent protection against the delta and lamba variant. it's not promised that the current vaccine will provide protection from all future unknown variants.

We had strict lockdowns in NY and CA last year, yet covid cases roared in March '20 and winter '20. You literally couldn't do shyt last year in NY, yet covid was rampant.

Don't take it from me listen to Biden's former covid advisor on if we're all getting it:hubie:

Or take note from this doctor from John Hopkins on when covid will end :ld:
When will the COVID-19 go away for good? The answer, according to health experts, is never.

But COVID-19 in 2025 is not going to be the same illness we fought in 2020 and 2021. The coronavirus will become milder, causing less hospitalization and death.

“It’s going to be less of a threat than it was in the acute phases of the pandemic, but it’s going to be something that establishes itself in the human population,” said Dr. Amesh Adalja, senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security at the Bloomberg School of Public Health.

When will COVID-19 be over? Never, experts say — but it will get milder, less deadly over time

Based on what is happening in Europe we will have north of 300,000 cases in the US in less that month.

I don't give a shyt bout cases and neither should you. :heh:

The main thing is severe symptoms and hospilaztions. If the Omicron cases lead to little hospilaztions and mild symptoms, it doesn't fukking matter. By all accounts, Omicron seems to cause little hospilaztions and mild symptoms to South Africa. It's time to stop caring bout cases.
