So is this Omicron variant giving more severe symptoms? Is it resistant of the vaccine? Has anyone died from it? Is it much more contagious than the other variants?

That's cause it's too far gone. When Trump was president last year during the first outbreak, too many conspiracies were sown, and he purposely placed doubts in the public's mind about medical institutions that we've relied on for over a century now.
The main cause of this virus being what it is today is the fact that it was allowed to spread unchecked for several months. You can say "well what about the rest of the world" and my answer to that is... The rest of the world follows America's lead. The President of the United States isn't called the "leader of the free world" for no reason. America sets the tone for everyone, and when the president here told everyone that it was no big deal and don't be worried and that it would go away on its own and don't wear masks and don't listen to the scientists, etc etc etc... the dye was cast.
The damage has already been done and Biden can't fix this.

This isn’t a common take but maybe it’s a good thing if Omicron becomes the more dominant strain if it’s more contagious but is also less severe . Omicron could out compete Delta and while more ppl may get it it’s overall effect would be slashed .
This does need : 1 Omicron to be less lethal than delta 2.A variant that does leave people somewhat immune to Delta .

I've been trying to force myself to have a degree of skepticism about the omicron variant but after getting caught up with news after the holiday, I'm worried. The fact that this has world leaders scared enough to consider closing their borders means this threat is real and that omicron might trigger the worst virus outbreak in a long time.
Yall be safe out here. I'm vaccinated, never took my mask off, hell I never took my gloves off... scheduling my booster for this week... but even with that, I'm not letting my guard down for even a minute.

It's as if people are hoping against hope for the worst case scenario.
The CDC bulletpoints on Omicron read exactly like Lambda and Mu; possibly more infectious than Delta, don't know if it causes more severe disease/death, could evade vaccines - don't know yet but vaccines still provide protection.
So why is this being treated like the emergence of the black plague? Because it has a headline catching name? You make Omicron the subject and you can concoct any manner of wild tales such as it being 500% more infectious than the Delta variant.
