The flu goes away yearly because it weakens with transmission and herd immunity. I think people have realized it isn’t going away. The point of the initial quarantine was to prevent the medical system from being overwhelmed (like in NYC). Now the cases are being seen as milder, more asymptomatic people who go get swabbed cause they know someone positive more than anything. Orange County (FL) mayor reported today avg age of positives in the last 14 days is 29 yo. Biggest age group positive is 20-29. Those people have stronger immune systems and less comirbidities. They will help with the herd immunity. They need to stay away from compromised people though. Certain areas of FL are seeing spikes in SNFs too.

Keep in mind this is shyt I read

I'm still cautious. I wear my mask when I'm out. But at the same time, I adopted the mindset that this thing is here and will be here for a while. It might just have to run its course, or we have to just deal with it till a vaccine. I don't know where the line is exactly, but at some point the ripple effects of just shutting everything down will be worse than the result of the pandemic.

I for sure might be wrong, I don't know shyt about infectious diseases. But proceeding with life cautiously is reasonable to me.

:ehh:Thanks for the non-answer breh. :wow:

Talking to the safety officer nerd at the school I work at, my understanding is that the flu season goes away, not because of increased immunities, but rather better air circulation since doors and windows start opening once the weather starts warming back up. This also seems to correlate with the fact that the protests did not contribute to a huge spike in cases since they were held outdoors. This is also why care facilities were getting so many cases. Being indoors with poor air circulation is where they're seeing "superspreading" events. From everything I've been putting together, it really comes down to how much of an initial viral load you catch and whether it's small enough so that your immune system can fight it off before it activates in your body.

That's Seattle though, down here in LA the protests have absolutely had an impact. But it was hot out here so many weren't wearing masks. Probably the same as it was in Florida and Texas

I can see that if everyone is yelling without masks, but I still think there's some credence to the idea of the virus not spreading nearly as bad when there is plenty of fresh air on tap.

Oakland had a huge, densely populated Juneteenth event last week. It's going to be interesting to see if there's a spike out here in the next coming week or so.
