I see all sides of reopening and staying closed. I think the damage is done all around. It's already been clear how dysfunctional this nation is. This incident ripped off the band-aid.
I get needing to reopen. My governor posted a few days ago that the state is losing billions in revenue. Things are so partisan though, that there are people saying that he shouldn't be asking for a bailout from the government. That's where we're at. I get it. We all have our political leanings, but to hate one political party so much, that you're willing to go against your best interests says a lot. And if the federal government isn't going to help out certain states, they're really not going to have a choice but to reopen.
We can be hopeful about a vaccine, but the reality is that by this time next year, there might not be one. We can go years without one as they try to get one that works and is safe. So things do have to reopen, but how much business are these places going to do? I think it'll be mixed. Like my mom loves cruises. She's saying that things need to reopen. She's also not getting on a cruise until there is a vaccine. Some will, and some won't. How many tourists are going to rush back to NYC? Especially international tourists who are watching how things are being handled here. It might be years before things get back to normal, and during that time, if Republicans have the ability to halt things in their tracks, nothing will be done to help people out. This is a time to have a positive legacy. Even if Biden wins in November, and we get a bunch of Republicans out of Congress, there will be another batch just waiting in the cut to strip away any progress made.
