Why can’t the young NY producers of today making sample drill beats be seen in the same light or as modernizing the sound?
Not knockin em. These guys are interested in boom bap so that’s what I’m speaking about

I listen to the production on GNX and it sounds traditionally regional, yet still modern. Why can’t the young NY producers of today making sample drill beats be seen in the same light or as modernizing the sound?
I'm not even gonna compare Cash to the dudes on GNX, but the Pop Out showed you they have a bunch of rappers who if nothing else, are gonna be okay because Cali got em. Who's the NY equivalent to say JasonMartin? Dom Kennedy? Jay Worthy? Larry June? We have guys we HOPE get there. I love Dave East, but even when he was at his peak, you had dudes in Harlem questioning whether he was even from there instead of just supporting him. Even a dude like Capella Grey who had a hit on his hands couldn't sustain that shyt. Kenzo B, Dougie B, B Lovee, all the Bronx drill rappers not named Ice Spice. None of them have pivoted while not even being good enough to keep our attention locally. I couldn't believe it til I saw it myself. If I said Sexyy Red of all people has the city on smash the last couple of years among all these youngins (especially the dudes for some reason), it would be hard for you to argue against it. Sexyy Red!What do u mean here?
What makes LA and the Bay any more self sufficient than us
Cash Cobain is much more popping than any of them artist on Kendrick’s album
I hate when NY posters be on this self deprecating shyt and dikk sucking other regions
We have our own shyt as much as anyone.
you couldn’t have name a better example then Dave East who is a 10+ year vet now?People hate New York and east coast rappers. Look at the irrational hate people like Dave East get on here.
You’re comparing new drill rappers to modern Cali scene OG’s dudes that came out in the blog era and have sustained underground careers. Big difference between Dom Kennedy and these new LA rappers.I'm not even gonna compare Cash to the dudes on GNX, but the Pop Out showed you they have a bunch of rappers who if nothing else, are gonna be okay because Cali got em. So what would the NY equivalent be? Soul samples? Swiss Beatz / Alch type beats/Harry Fraud type with the horns? The sound that Kendrick is brining back isn’t even equivalent to boom bap in terms of legacy and I say that as a west coast dude. Kendrick’s basically bringing back a re-hash of hyphy that already got brought back 10 years ago but LA put their own elements in back then so it’s like a blend. NY needs to have a Kendrick or Cole type rapper to make the boom bap thing work and they don’t have that
I can’t really think of a sound NY had in the the last 10-15 years that made me automatically go this is some NY shyt. I guess Harry would the closest but I’m an outsider speaking on it, first thing I think of with Harry was the stuff he did with CurrensySo what would the NY equivalent be? Soul samples?
