Could a top NYC rapper bring that old NYC/East Coast sound back like Kendrick did or are niccas too gone riverdancing to UK/90's sample drill beats?

No because this is a generation raised not off locals, but more off what was poppin at the time and that was the South and Drill. LA and the Bay are self-sufficient, where being local isn't a problem because locals will support you. Cash Cobain can go to a local college campus and do a show but that's about it. We're not nearly as insular. I wish the city was just 100% behind Rome Streetz but that's not the case. Too many false starts and in hindsight, locals shoulda been less critical of A$AP Mob and any crew after them blew it in one way or another.

What do u mean here?

What makes LA and the Bay any more self sufficient than us

Cash Cobain is much more popping than any of them artist on Kendrick’s album :mjtf:

I hate when NY posters be on this self deprecating shyt and dikk sucking other regions :dahell:

We have our own shyt as much as anyone.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
People hate New York and east coast rappers. Look at the irrational hate people like Dave East get on here.
Its more warranted now but son was hated on here from the jump and it was weird af. Me and @ISO was like the only nikkas on here who would defend him.

No because NY doesn't show love to their new artists as much as the West Coast OGs do.

They been having Jadakiss and Fabolous hog the scene for over 20 years.

Young MA came close but she had a super short run
Lol most the young NY rappers are more popping than the artist on K-Dot’s album

Kendrick & Mustard have built a pedigree for 15 years so they’re afforded latitude to do different stuff. Mustard is the contemporary version for the west as the guys that came before. He’s making traditional west coast vibes with new aged feel. Before you worry about a east coast rapper doing that you need the east coast producer repackaging the old into the new

The difference between boom bap and that bay shyt is BPS. When was the last time a boom bap song tore up clubs? Radio? Made women shake their ass? Inherently people move to that west coast shyt whereas east coast shyt is more…not that

So whether or not Kendrick is using a regional sound isn’t as important as it passing the accessibility test which boom bap doesn’t

Why can’t the young NY producers of today making sample drill beats be seen in the same light or as modernizing the sound?
