Omicron is bypassing the initial vaccines. We still don't know the long term consequences of COVID either.
Boosters are widely available and very effective against Omicron.

Based on the findings, Montefiori says a new vaccine specifically targeting omicron probably won't be needed. During a White House briefing Wednesday, Dr. Anthony Fauci of the National Institutes of Health echoed that, both for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.
"Our booster vaccine regimens work against omicron. At this point, there is no need for a variant-specific booster," Fauci said.
Mask up obviously. But otherwise I'm going to live my life. I'm not going to subject my kids to more unnecessary lockdowns, keep them from their grandparents (vaccinated + booster) or continue to entertain political clowns like our local teachers union
At some point people need to decide how much power over their lives they want to relinquish to the media. For instance, if the only thing you knew about Chicago (where I live) was what's reported on the news you would think the entire city is a warzone. This happens all the time when I talk to someone from other states/countries. I have to sit there and explain to them the reality - that yes there is violence, but that it's actually much safer relatively speaking than many other cities, that overwhelming majority of it is gang related (and therefore completely avoidable for most people) and that there are entire industries (the police scanner community for instance) and political constituencies (police unions, "tough on crime" politicians, opponents of the mayor) who have an interest in promoting that view of the city.
