So when I posted the time of the Gargano match in the Takeover thread being 37 mins and then everyone coming in saying HHH/Ronda would be an hour.

Well, it was the longest match of the night at 20:40. :dead:

Cena was legitimately liked by fans from 03-06 then they started to turn on him because of staleness and his matches started becoming bland. He wasn't Vince's first choice either but circumstances changed and he got himself over. He also had a midcard run to build his credibility up with the fans.

Reigns was chosen and superman pushed from the start, and what made it way worse is they pushed him over their most over face -- D Bry. There isn't even a midcard now, compared to when Cena came up where it was filled with beloved vets who could work and get new talent over. They tried to repair Roman after the fact by having him wrestle those types of matches in the main event against guys like Bryan and AJ.

Wait, I'm confused. By longe range direction of his character, do you mean permanent babyface? I don't think most people would have an issue with the latter if he made different choices with the former. Isn't that where the bigger issue lies for most fans?

I mean things like less pandering, less hokey promos etc. But that's the character Vince wanted and that's what he got. Does Cena really seem like someone who is going to rock the boat? He seems like more of a "happy to be there" type as he loves wrestling. He's a company guy. He never really seemed to be offered much control over his character and he never seemed to demand it. Ultimately it's Vince who makes that final decision. He wanted Cena to be a certain way and that's the plan he has for Roman. Stone Cold would have CM Punk'd his way out if he came up in the PG era and Rock would have been Cena. Rock was a company guy too and he would have delivered the half baked baby face Vince wanted. We already saw he was willing to do it in 1996.

You know what? I'm not even blaming Vince for this Mania. Sure the booking was bad, but it's always bad.

I'm placing most of the blame on the wrestlers themselves. Like, got damn did any of them even care? Even their special Mania gear was trash overall. This definitely felt like the "I'm just here for the paycheck" Mania. These people have overcome poor booking to deliver quality matches all year and then one by one, came out and either shyt the bed or delivered straight mediocrity.
This. Alexander-Ali were the only ones that went all out and saw that this might be their only Mania match or moment ever. IC match was good, but even the full time wrestlers worked like the part timers, guess the moral of the part timers always being the main focus had them want to get in and get out too.

I got to start agreeing with you there.

Did her exactly how they did Sasha when they had her lose the Iron Man match then come out the next night and say "I don't feel like I'm The Boss anymore. :to:" Only thing missing was Nia coming out and running her fade for good measure.

I thought it was a good match and I wasn't someone who was against Asuka losing. I knew she was gonna take an L sooner rather than later but the ending and the post match had me:what:
