Two totally different situations. What do black people need? All the tools are there for us to succeed, he can't make white people stop being racist, so all he can do is make sure the opportunities are available and motivate us to take advantage of them. Black leaders of all times have given us this same message, "Go out and get it cause the white folks won't give it to you" yet Obama gets flak for it.

Should he go around speaking to black groups about how the "man" is holding them back?

For years black people have fought for equality. Now that we are closer than we've ever been, we want to fault the president for not treating us "special" Obama has done plenty of things for us that, the next ten presidents wouldn't have even thought of.

I would like Cornell and Tavis Smiley to spell out exactly what they want the president to do. The same way latinos demand immigration reform and gays demand marriage equality.

What specifically do they want Obama to do for black people? That isn't being taken care of in his push for Healthcare, jobs plan, equal pay etc.

This right here.

Unemployment is an AMERICAN issue not just a black issue, so is education and such. What specifically can Obama do for the black elite to get the to STFU?

20% of small business stimulus money was given to black owned business, he also helped them with their credit worthiness.

Who do you think got to keep their jobs from the auto bailout? I live in Ohio and I'd say at least 75% of the older black people I know work for, or retired from the auto industry

He's given out extra resources to people who want to go to college. They call him the foodstamps president cause he extended benefits to college students, so they can concentrate on their studies instead of worrying about what they are gonna eat.

He's extended extra funding in helping kids from poor neighborhoods make it to good schools.

What more could he do to address black unemployment?

:wow2::wow:

This. And nobody siding with Cornel or Tavis has answered that. And Cenk was overboard saying Sharpton sold out by saying he wouldn't criticize Obama. He, and Tavis and Cornel know damn well Sharpton just don't wanna be in that nefarious crowd of right wing nuts, sensationalists, uncle toms, c00ns and outright racists that criticize everything Obama does, 24/7, since he joined office.

:childplease: this is America, the president isn't perfect. I'd rather people INTELLIGENTLY debate his administration regardless of his color.

Fine...I'll agree with this when black folks stop dikkriding Obama and giving him credit for rising employment numbers while coming up with excuses for him when black unemployment numbers increase.

It's like "horray....let's give him credit for everyone else getting jobs....but black folks....you're on your own!!"

Black unemployment numbers have reflected overall unemployment numbers. They were higher than the national average before his election. They increased to their peak during his presidency, and they have been decreasing for the last year or so. The same can be said for the national average.

But regardless of any of that, you can't blame him for the numbers, nor can you expect him to fix them singlehandedly in four years.

These are problems that have been engrained in American culture for over 100 years, yet you think Obama is just supposed to put a stop to them by signing some type of law, the expectation is just unrealistic.

Obama has little to no control over who gets hired for these jobs. Nor does he have control Black people being unemployed (which due to a lack of qualified individuals to fill these jobs and a lack of education to teach the skills required to do these jobs. The rising unemployment is in direct correlation to the African-Americans dropping out of school like flies over the past decade. Obama has delegated billions of dollars to improving the educational system and funding programs that will train African-Americans to learn in demand careers, such as his STEM grants to High School students in school right now and doubling Pell grants so more kids can fund their education.

I agree, but black folks need to make up their minds.

They're like "Yayyyyyyy...look at the improving job numbers!!" but when they see black unemployment rise, they suddenly say "Man....he doesnt have control Black people being unemployed...he's the President for all people!!"

:heh:

:stopitslime: it was at nearly 16% a year ago. You can't look at monthly numbers they will always fluctuate. Black unemployment rates reflect the national rates in that they went to their peak in 2011 and they are now coming down.

And besides that. What more can Obama do to fix these numbers?

Nothing. The same way people shouldn't give him credit for improving job numbers.
