It is not the job of people like Sharpton, West, Smiley and Dyson to cheerlead for politicians. Instead they should be holding politicians feet to the fire and fighting for policies that will help the country in general and black folks in particular.
For Sharpton and Dyson to completely abdicate their roles as conscientious rabble rousers in the fight against inequality for black and poor people just because the president happens to be black is complete bullshyt.
Any so-called activist who does not question those in power is not worth being listened to and West is only doing now what he has done his entire career...questioning the political establishment.

Agreed. Democracy only truly works when you hold the candidates you voted for accountable. It's become too much cheerleading. Everyone wants to spin things to protect "their guy".

Very dangerous mentality.

Although I disagree with west, I agree with this statement. We should hold our elected officials accountable.

Calling names and placing unearned blame is counterproductive in my opinion. If you wanna say obama should do more for black folks, that's fine. If you wanna criticize the stuff he has done for it's effectiveness, that's fine as well. But saying he doesn't care about black folks, or he's done nothing for them, or he's in "blackface" will not produce a productive conversation/critique

Agreed.

Very disappointed in Dr. West's comments.
