A lot of Republicans these days think Romney lost because he "wasn't conservative enough" and think Christie is a RINO. So a lot of GOP voters will be unhappy with anybody that isn't a far-right Tea Party type. Someone running as a moderate (or even just logic) will have a hard time getting past the primaries, they'll just be seen as Romney v2. Look what happened to Jon Huntsman...the GOP hated him. For Christie to get through he'll probably have to go out of his way to convince the base that he's "severely conservative" like Romney. Which of course would hurt him in the general election.

Romney was a better version of a Christie type candidate, he was malleable enough to satisfy the base, and we saw how that turned out. All Cruz will have to do is ask Christie to comment on his hiring of the 'radical mooslim' as an AG/Judge, and he will predictably go ballistic, as he has done in the past, and thats curtains for the big fella.
People forget that Rick Perry's collapse begun when he dared to show compassion to the children of illegal immigrants, and he's a bona fide rwnj. An act which ironically led to Romney's 'self deport' opportunism that in turn ended his chances with hispanics, ergo the tea party was able to kill a rwnj and a moderate in one go.
Republicans are done as a national political party.

Conservatives do not support Christie. He will not survive the primaries in 2016. I think the most likely candidates for 2016 are Ted Cruz and rand Paul. Which is excellent for democrats, since neither of them are electable on the national stage.
