even when Nas and Mega had their differences in the past I never really heard Mega trash Illmatic and IWW...i think he thought that they were dope albums by a guy who wasn't "real"...which is where a lot of his attacks were aimed at back in the day...but he never went in on the skills of IWW...the only thing I can remember him even saying critical of it is how some of the beats sounded like shampoo commercials lol.. and he once said something about writing a few lines on Affirmative Action for him

But I personally go in and out of phases with IWW since it dropped...every so often I run it like it just came out even 25 years later...i went through a phase with it about 3 months ago

mega has admitted before that nas basically gave his career life with the shout out on Illmatic and the feature on IWW

DX: For sure. I think it’s kind of cliché to bring up Nas in a Cormega interview. And I hate watching or reading those interviews because you’re Cormega, not Nas. But since we’re talking about Queensbridge influencers, did Nas, aside from the shoutouts on “One Love” and “Represent,” impact your career heavily?

Cormega: Yes, he did. He definitely did. His influence wanted to make people sign me and associate with me. His influence was important, because once I was a part of that Firm situation, it was a big buzz, so I guess that made the stock go up. So he definitely was important. I can’t front on anybody. The It Was Written album was the biggest album I’ve ever been on. It was a multi-platinum album. I can’t front. I’m thankful for thatt.

I bought it the day it came out and remember listening to it in my grandma's living room in Dothan, Alabama. I was underwhelmed to be honest. Especially after Illmatic.

I always say not much about the rap game would've changed if Biggie had lived (Tupac is the real wild card)...though Bad Boy probably would've pivoted to that Ruff Ryder sound instead of getting stale...either that or they'd cling to it until Biggie got fed up and signed to Roc-A-Fella or something lol
Are you high? Big living COMPLETELY and drastically alters the career paths of two of the biggest powerhouses of late 90's rap. Jigga and Diddy.

Big living literally changes everything.

Jay wouldn't have been quite as big but he still would've been a major figure regardless. He was always in Biggie's orbit and a lot of the aspects of the rap game that took off later were already coming into place before he died. The West falling off played a bigger factor in the transition - the Jiggy era was gonna happen regardless and was already in gear.

And yet a year after IWW, Jay was saying Nas top 3 lmao. There's no way someone with Jay's writing/pop/etc sensibilities thought IWW was wack. I remember when him and Nas made up on that MTV special he said that "one hot album" line was just something he said because he knew it would be popular.
Jay z never said Nas was top 3. He said people argued. Not him

Y’all Nas dudes live in y’all own reality

Also I need video of jay saying that about that line

And this album is not a classic

One of the greatest developments of recent times is the absolute irrelevance of tastemakers and payola industry fakkits like Eliot Wilson and Program Directors on radio stations who had so much power back in the day.

Especially Eliot. nikka just posts Roc Nation brunch pics and Ain’t No Jigga reposts.

Never cared for his opinion then and certainly not now.

Lmao I’m not going the semantic route on that line.

And the video is from the Sway interview with Jay and Nas when they made up. Same vid where they both take shots at Cam.
