It’s crazy how this era is. Dudes give away their best tracks for free over X amount of years before their album drop. So much dope content just lost in the shuffle. I just think of how some of our goats albums would turn out in this era. Imagine All Eyez on Me being a mixtape leading up to his death row debut. Illmatic a sampler. Reasonable Doubt being jay debut mixtape.

I hate this new era of the way music is put out. shyt rarely feels special at all.

rant over
I feel you, but I just wanted to say that as time goes on, when there's time and space between how much of this music released so close to each other (in the entire genre of hip-hop) I do think people will look back at this era and appreciate just how much fire dropped.

I agree that I wish stuff had more time to breathe, but there's a lot of quality stuff dropping in the late 2010's and early 2020's so far that I think will stand the test.

It still doesn't explain the disconnect between their fanbase /respect and the actual numbers.

is this even up for sale on cd etc? I thought it was all digital. Another reason not to sign with a major these days. If they’re not even going to take the financial responsibility of pressing up cd and vinyl them what’s the point of having them? If you are indie and sell enough to keep you going or at least signed to an indie label then keep it there. There will always be fans that want a cd or record and some kind of merch but nothing stops an independent artist from uploading albums to Spotify themselves. I don’t see the point of a major at all now, they aren’t even helping wi to distribution if you’re not pressing any physical copies.

Water under the bridge at this point. I know Benny just signed to Def Jam for around 1.5 million on a one album deal. That is dope. If Conway can’t get that type of deal I don’t see what the benefits would be for an artist like him to sign to a major label.

That’s great for Benny, but also very risky. Historically he has never sold a lot to justify that type of deal because he appeals to a niche market, but I’ve always said that Griselda would be much bigger if they can tap into the mainstream market. I hope it works out for Benny, and we don’t hear stories of him owing the label money.

I'm conflicted on Shady and the value they can bring to an artist. I actually enjoyed the output from Boogie, Grip and Griselda, also thought West's album was underrated, but none of these albums really sell or move the needle at all. You're supposed to be getting access to the Eminem machine right? Or at least his audience? But he's obviously not on the scene promoting his brand. So these artists are talented, and seemingly getting creative control, but no push...Kind of a raw deal imo

I can’t speak for all, but Conway did a Vlad interview where he cursed out Eminem fans and called them nerds, and they obviously didn’t forget. He recently apologized but it was obviously too late.

it has some great moments, but for the most part this is dishwater. dull as hell.

Lock & Load (minus Beans)
Piano Love
Guilty
Stressed
Chanel Pearls
God Don't Make Mistakes

I really want to feel more positive than I do about this because this has clearly been a hard process for him whether it creating it and getting it out but I'm struggling with it.

I'm struggling a bit too and it's wack because I love so much about the album. Tracks 6-12 are either perfect or close to it for me, and I wouldn't change anything there. But 1-5? Besides Piano Love, I can never listen to the first 5 tracks without wanting to skip some or even more than half of the song.

That's 4 joints with heavy portions skipped. That's a lot out of a 12 song album.

But god damn the best 3 or 4 songs on here are legit maybe his best 3 or 4 songs ever.

This album is super uneven IMO compared to recent Griselda releases like Bo Jackson and Tana Talk 3 as far as sequencing and consistent production and features goes. But it still has some of Conway's best material ever and for that alone I respect it like crazy.

But yeah this album has its dull moments.

I’m always gonna hate that he had to change the Drumwork beat.

with me I think I also have myself to blame also for not being that thrilled with this. Most of this album I’ve heard already damn near 2 years ago.
