facts, I get the ice spice hate but pop smoke has a gold and platinum album and was the face of a music scene that has pretty much revitalized the city, gave it an identity and has been the signature sound for the past 6 years regardless of how oldheads feel about it

What age do you consider being a old head

Clicked the link just to see who was behind this foolishness and out of the 13 listed writers there's only 1 black man :mjlol:

A couple of them don't have pics or socials but based on their names they're not black men. At least 5 are young women. No offense to the ladies but we need to be honest and not pretend like women were listening to bars and being well versed in non commercial hip hop. I would take their opinions more seriously if they were older women not 20 somethings. Most of the people making the list are too young.

This guy is the head writer/head of music at Complex:

These lists are worthless when the people making them aren't qualified and have political motives behind their choices. You can't make this list and leave off Dave, Pos, Phife, Roc Marci, AZ, Mega, Deck, Keith Murray, etc.

Kane at 19, G Rap at 30 but Nicki at 7 :russ:

Where the hell are Conway and Benny? They said New York not just NYC.

There’s some egregious picks like Ice Spice that were made for engagement/wave riding

But Nicki being top 10 shouldn’t be looked at crazy I hate that bytch but objectively what she has done skill wise, longevity wise, critically, commercially and how NY women deify her it’s not out the question. Y’all need to get out y’all bias

Too many rappers in NY to get in your feelings because an underground guy didn’t make it :hubie:

Nicki is NOT top 10 :camby:

They got KRS, Prodigy, Ghost, and Kane under her. That's disrespectful and was clearly only done for the sake of having a female ranked highly.

What’s the criteria for a list like this?

What’s the criteria for a list like this?

I'm one of these crazy people who actually thinks rappers should be able to rap so let's start there. Rapping ability/skill holds the most weight. Then we can get into the catalogs, longevity, and impact. Sales and commercial status aren't something that should be highly regarded when discussing art and culture. If it needs to be a part of the discussion so be it but it should never trump the artistic side. That's where these lists fall apart. How does Diddy who writes checks not rhymes make a list of best rappers? A man who doesn't rap is one of the best rappers.

Anyone rating Nicki that high is putting commercialism before culture. She's not as skilled as several rappers rated below her. Her catalog isn't as strong as several rappers below her. Prodigy has The Infamous and other classic or near classic works but is below Nicki. Shook Ones is one of the hardest songs ever and an NY staple. He's a better rapper but is below her. How? Being a female and pop culture icon does not warrant her placement. It's strictly political and pandering.
