At the end of the day nikkax just have to accept Big’s 2-3 years was just more resounding than anything that came out of NYC outside of what Jay accomplished over time. It was storybook

:yeshrug:

Nah, we don't have to accept that. People need to stop acting like it's disrespectful to lower the ranking of dead artists.

Look how high Pun is. He only had one notable album. Second album wasn't good but people would lose their mind if anyone said that out loud. Is he one of the best lyricists? Absolutely but his catalog obviously can't stand up to his peers. I say the same for Big L who's one of my favorites.

Ready to Die vs Illmatic or IWW vs Life After Death? People can edge this either way. It's a close battle and no one can say it's a landslide. If it's that close but that's all Big has as far as albums how can he be over Nas who is still adding to his catalog and rapping at a high level?

Big is holding his spot largely due to nostalgia and being deceased. Nas been surpassed him.

I understand you point but nas albums don’t really hit like that outside his fanbase. Ilmatic the one. But that appeals to a way more older crowd. I know this hurt but Nas don’t got an album the general hip hop crowd care about like that. And I’m not talking no teens and 20 year olds. His own fanbase made this be the reason. Always complaining and shyt. All that complaining lessen all his albums except one.

I disagree but I'm not of these stans who throws a cape on so I'm not interested in a back and forth. We'll agree to disagree:hubie:

No

In real time Pun was a talented rapper with a hit record. Him & BIG are two different stories. Capital Punishment does not have the legacy of Ready to Die nor LAD. I’ll go as far as to say Pun’s name & legacy has faded over the years

To compare Pun to Biggie is lunacy…rap nerd shyt. We’re talking real life

Let’s not have an honest conversation about the great Nas either…

I wasn't comparing Pun's accomplishments to Big's. I'm pointing out that dead artists get propped up higher and that people are hesitant to criticize the dead.

It Was Written is regularly cited by rap fans and rappers, was a massive hit album, and had multiple classic records on it (plus hits). We're trying to have an actual rap discussion here, separate from the wack ass Complex list.

I also disagree that Biggie is there solely due to nostalgia, although nostalgia clearly plays a role. He's the JFK of hip hop. Meaning the height of his popularity often outweighs his obvious flaws, and people don't talk about the flaws because of his tragic death. He's always gonna be the king, just like the Kennedys will always have Camelot. Whether we like it or not.

That being said I def think there are things he was better at than his peers. He was superior to Nas at making club records and ladies tracks. No one would deny that. Some might say he still has more bangers than Nas. I'd disagree but it's def a conversation/debate worth having.

we all get it why Nas fans have a hatred for Biggie. We all understand and know the story, but what you can’t do is rewrite history and as I already posted - how much more relevance biggie had towards Nas and Jay in dat mid 90s era

Ready to die and LAD are two of the most sample albums in the history of rap music
