Family Matters that low. One of the longest running Black series of all time. Though I'm not a fan, I thought one of those Tyler Perry shows would be in the Top 25.
I've give DIfferent World props in this sense. They lost their main star (Lisa Bonet) and still was able to evolve and make it a great show. And even when the show evolved again, it was still watchable (at least to me) with Jada and her new class. Martin last season was nearly unwatchable.
Martin is my no.1 show, because I still watch it every chance I get, and it still leaves me . Except for the final season when Gina missed the Love Cruise vacation and was m.i.a for good.
And, A Different World is the reason why I looked forward to college.
Yeah, I think A Different World is ranked that high because of the impact it had on black youth. From what I was told by ol' heads--I'm only twenty for, so my memory of the show is rather scant--A.D.W. was the reason a lot of nikkas went to college/pledged while in college. However, I think Martin has a legit argument for second place.
A different world had a lotta kids in the East Coast checking out HBCU's back in the early 90's my little brother ended up going to Howard because of that show. I would put Martin at #2 as well. If you look back at all the careers that show made and also by virtue that a show with one guy playing multiple characters in that format was so viable. Martin was one the last shows to be #1 watched in it's timeslot, in fact Martin and Living Single and NY undercover made Thursday night a legit night for comedies and it was supposed to be the graveyard.
My top 5 would have been
1. Cosby Show
2. Martin
3. Sanford and Son
4. Good Times
5. Fresh Prince
