This is a bigger problem with the Democratic party. Too many oldheads who keep holding the party back instead of walking off into the sunset.
we dems gonna get screwed by another old politician who doesn't know when to quit.:francis:

Joe Biden is the most effective Democratic President of most of your lifetimes.
Nancy Pelosi is the most effective Speaker of your lifetime.
Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren have moved the Overton Window in the Democratic Party so far left that the Party is almost unrecognizable from even 15 years ago.

Feinstein still being in elected office is an abomination, but oldheads still get shyt done.

I don't disagree.

At the same time, generally speaking elder congresspeoples' inability to understand/regulate social media, artificial intelligence and/or technology in general will have long-term consequences that could be disastrous in a way that we've never experienced before.

The median Congressperson's age is 20 years greater than the median American's age. There's a general disconnect imo and a lack of representation in a way that is sustainable enough to create sustainable change re: Climate Change et al.

Then you have an issue like in NC where the GOP overrides the veto because a rep had a doctor's appointment.

Nonsense. Making it about merely being old does no service when all these folks get sick and not need to come into the office.

In fact, we waste a lot of money on their travel for the sake of travel.

But using your own argument against this, couldn't that person just have scheduled a telehealth appt instead?

And unless it was a surgery or something to that effect, it's a doctor's appointment, not a subpoena. Rescheduling it for another day could have taken him/her all of 40 seconds.

Allowing your personal health or illnesses to adversely negatively effect your constituents is a strangely ironic form of governance.

She had an ongoing appointment for long Covid treatments.

Teledocs are great for a lot of things, it they lack the full service experience of going to a doctor with labs, X-rays,and other treatment options you may need.

Regardless, they scheduled the vote during the time when there was a known appointment and did not allow any debate.

Proxy voting solves this issue.

These are terrible arguments being made because you don’t like Feinstein and is a heel turn from most of what you value in politics and workers rights.

Many of the critiques re: Feinstein and her enablers apply to Biden as this is increasingly what his term will look like and most certainly his second term.

Keep that in mind as these same folks are preparing to trot him out in 2024.

You said "doctor's appointment". A series of treatments for a chronic debilitating illness isn't the first thing that most people think about when they hear that, hence my initial caveat. I'm thinking she missed a vote because of an ear infection or the sniffles.

As far as the bolded.....

:russ: Breh, I don't exactly have to jump out the window on this Feinstein issue to find reasons why this situation is a complete and utter embarrassment. Obviously I'm all for your personal health taking precedent over your employment obligations. But if your personal health as an elected official is also creating problems for the people who elected you to serve, then that's clearly a problem. I don't even have an issue on the surface with proxy voting, I actually agree with you that it potentially solves more problems than it creates. Feinstein's issues go well beyond that though.

But you responded to a quote about why proxy voting isn't a viable solution and ignored why the lack of proxy voting creates scenarios where the will of the people is overruled.

As far as health, we just voted in and celebrated a man having strokes because people like his politics. :francis:

You know what, I'd argue proxy voting would alleviate most health related issues AND allow representatives to spend more time in their respective districts than hob knobbing with lobbyist in DC.

Altogether Feinstein is old, but she's not unique. In fact the Senate is just fukking old in general. We can argue over term limits and age limits (if you've followed my positions you know I support both), but I don't see these folks waking up one day and deciding they don't want to remain in power and sadly voters don't seem to care. lmao

Bout fukking time. It's obvious she can't do the job so retire and go home. Recover with your family. Stop holding up the team

I would also say the same about fetterman. If I still lived in PA I would vote for him, but if all these health issues start adding up and holding up the agenda, I would say the same. Let the Democratic governors of both states call up a replacement.
