I May Destroy You. Michaela Coel writes and stars in this BBC drama. (Also on HBO)

Kinda hard to watch. This show explores rape, sexual assault and gay black male stuff. Brilliant performance by Michaela Coel (even though I don't like her). Weruche Opia comes across a bit wooden.

Although set in my area, I can't relate to 90% of the shyt in the show. And some scenes had me like

I Thought I was the only one watching this. We’re up on Episode 5 in the US

make a thread because it’s something that need to be discussed :gucci::scust::dame:

We're on episode 10. And nah, I put this out there because I was hoping someone else would make a thread because of the subject matter.

How do y’all go about finding movies that you want to watch. Do y’all have a list or just pick something randomly?
i start with looking at the filmography of a director who made a movie i liked and just start watching a few of their other movies.

another thing i might do is to search google for lists of the top movies in a particular genre that i like. i try to be as specific about the genre as possible (cult classics, giallo, independent films, zombie movies, etc.) and let google take you down a rabbit hole.

also, i have cable, so i will check out turner classic movies periodically. they have the best team of people curating movies ever, pretty much. mostly old hollywood but friday nights has b-movies, saturday nights is film noir, and they also choose movies that match popular american holidays

for new stuff, i used to watch collider, now i check out john campea and grace randolph on youtube every once in a while. "what the flick" on the young turks network used to be the best new movie review show but that ended and most of the cast went over to "breakfast all day podcast" which i dont watch often anymore but it is pretty good.

sometimes i just blindly check something out when a boutique blu ray distributor announces that it is putting out something interesting. in a way, they are curators like the people working at TCM because most of these companies have a niche (b-movies, art house, etc.) vinegar syndrome and arrow make new trailers for releases, so that is a chance to see if you want to watch it.

Tried the 'Childs Play' remake. Got through 29 minutes before I gave up.

Going to finally watch 'Hereditary' tonight. :damn: :to:

While the Blaxploitation genre often gets criticism for fixating on the sketchiest elements of black communities IMO this seems like a much more complex portrayal of black characters than what film audiences had been given at the time
