Punishment Park - Peter Watkins - 1971

This was incredible. It's shot in a documentary style and follows radicals/subversives/draft dodgers who chose to go to a place called Punishment Park instead of prison. They have to survive three days as the police/national guard/army hunt them down across the desert. This is all intercut with a tribunal where others are on trial, they debate and argue with people who are on the board, all people who have major power in one way or another. Movie captures the whole battle between the generations, between those in power and those that are oppressed and tension of the time perfectly. It's not dated either because a lot of these issues are still relevant today, racism, US involvement in wars, people who get tossed places despite never having a proper trial etc.

I've been hearing a lot about this shyt ever since it (along with a bunch of other Indian movies) 'invaded' the IMDb Top 250 but I haven't found an afternoon/evening yet to dedicate myself to this. Because I will watch this shyt in one go, believe that.

I've been hearing a lot about this shyt ever since it (along with a bunch of other Indian movies) 'invaded' the IMDb Top 250 but I haven't found an afternoon/evening yet to dedicate myself to this. Because I will watch this shyt in one go, believe that.

i really enjoyed it.. kept my attention the whole 5 and a half hours.

sometimes even 90 min movies don't hold my attention

it just hit US cinemas for the first time last month
