COLI DEBATE: Should "ALL" Prisons Be ABOLISHED? (Are Prisons Really Necessary?)

This has been my stance. I still haven't gotten a real response from the abolitionists besides @Slang Dussain Ali. Trying to hear others views on this. I'm for the Scandinavian model.

I am for giving prisoner's rights. I think every person over the age of 18 should never lose their right to vote. So that means amending the 13th amendment. I don't want to go down that route. Because when we start amending shyt, we are fukked up.


But wait....

You know we tripping about Trump being elected, but this is the problem- there is now a unified Conservative conglomerate. They can make amendments now, because those require either 2/3 or 3/4 of all states to ratify it.

Thats the dagger. I am worried about them curtailing a lot of rights. Unless people more liberals move to the heartland or border states and vote, this shyt is a wrap.

I took some classes on carceral studies, and I've read a lot on this topic.

That being said, I don't know if it's possible to totally abolish all prisons. If we abolish all prisons, are we abolishing the state's right to discipline those who are deemed worthy of persecution? If so, who then does that onus fall on? Will we resort to vigilante justice when a person rapes a child?

I just think this is a larger question about justice and how it is distributed. But no, I do not see it as possible. Too much of society is based on it, and our society is too corrupt for them to not exist.

If we must have prison, I believe the format of prison should be this.

A large compound where there is minimum supervision. Supervision is only to avoid large-scale violence among prisoners and escape. Maybe deliver minimum supplies also.

Basically, a criminal is removed from society. Their punishment is removal from society to femd for themselves.

This way prison is more accurately defined to all. It's what proson is now, just with slavery and state sponsored brutality included.

Their human right's won't be removed, just societal right.

I agreed until the last part. Most of these prisoners have mental health issues. So, what would we do then?
