No because there are always some people out there who need locked up.

But prison reform is a must and mental health reform is just as important. There are a lot of guys behind bars who need serious mental help.
I also think prisoners should have conjugal visits. Let's be honest, people need human interaction and loved ones. Isolating them in a box doesn't help. The Scandinavian model works in my view.

The problem with implementing that kind of model in the US is that Scandinavia has a highly homogeneous population. I don't think people talk about this enough but due to race being such an issue in the US people aren't going to empathize enough to change the system unless it affects them or someone who looks like them. Look at how some white people deny racism exists and their privilege. The reason we have a punishment system instead of a rehabilitative system is because the justice system in the US was born to incarcerate African Americans in high concentrations. It all boils down to racism.

Which leads to my argument of getting rid of institutional racism. I agree with your point, but that old way has not been successful. TBH, I agree with Ron Paul's approach on War On Drugs. Yes, Scandinavia is a homogeneous society, but their model has produced results. Our model just makes profit off of prisoners. It's screwed up.

I think prisons should not be privatized for business, too many money making incentives that go against rehabilitation.

I think if those in prison can't vote, then they shouldn't be counted in the census. A states population determines how many electoral college votes they have. That whole thing just seems shady.

This right here and you have people invested I. Those prisons like the George bush who make money off it and have people perform slave labor for a big profit while they make like 3$ a day

Still, I haven't heard the argument on why we need to abolish prisons :jbhmm:

It goes with what i said. Until you show me a prison with guards who have never sinned or committed any type of even moral misconduct, no man should be assigned with taking my freedom.

I know we can go to any and every prison right now, if we had unrestricted access to the guards skeletons many of them would become prisoners.

Same goes for the Judiciary and Legislative branch of our government. We have Judges sentencing people who are kid fukkers themselves. FOH!

You have to realize about prison. The penal system is a poweful tool in ws. It's the other weapon they use against enemies of ws. If they can't kill you, they incarcerate you. Dating back to when they would throw you in the dungeons.

Prison is actually a more effective means of squashing uprisings. A man may stomach dying for his cause, but it's a totally different thing rotting in a cell. With them slowly breaking you down.

We gave them that power and it needs be taken back.

Imagine the day when people refuse to go to jail...

You have a point with your argument. My statement was mainly directed at @JahFocus CS However, yes the prison system is a powerful tool for WS. I 100% agree with that. TBH, we need more Black representation in congress and the senate. Another thing I've been advocating for. I never believed in violating people's human rights. That's what U.S. prisons does. I like your argument and perspective man.

I took some classes on carceral studies, and I've read a lot on this topic.

That being said, I don't know if it's possible to totally abolish all prisons. If we abolish all prisons, are we abolishing the state's right to discipline those who are deemed worthy of persecution? If so, who then does that onus fall on? Will we resort to vigilante justice when a person rapes a child?

I just think this is a larger question about justice and how it is distributed. But no, I do not see it as possible. Too much of society is based on it, and our society is too corrupt for them to not exist.

Prison is needed but nobody should be locked up for weed.
Non violent offenders shouldn't be mixed in with violent offenders and rapists

This has been my stance. I still haven't gotten a real response from the abolitionists besides @Slang Dussain Ali. Trying to hear others views on this. I'm for the Scandinavian model.
