IMO he's got a credible angle as a guy that bet on himself and won. Didn't like being pigeonholed as a midcard guy, and became a bigger name after leaving instead of falling flat and doing the shoot interview circuit like all the other guys that "Vince/WWE creative didn't know how to use"

The WWE Universal Champion, whoever that is, has to be someone the company can put in front of mainstream media and be comfortable with the outcome/perception.

So on that logic, it kind of has to be Cody if anyone. Especially if in kayfabe, he can beat someone Roman can't beat (Seth) and do so with half a chest.
That said, I believe Reigns' run has reached a point where the person who ends it has to be further legitimized as a top star. This is a torch-passing moment as I cannot see Roman having a future reign anywhere near as substantial as this one whenever he takes the L.

Cody is already a top star and him winning the straps won't make him a significantly bigger deal than he already is. It's funny that Cody's whole schtick about this is "Finish The Story" when, if the WWE heeded this advice Jey Uso would put Roman down.

As of now, my assumption is that the Usos lose, obviously, but the Bloodline ensures Roman wins. However, Roman berates and gaslights the Usos after the fact for losing and subsequently failing to regain the tag titles.

I’ve said numerous times in this thread I wanna see Cody win the belt in the near future. Even this Mania as long as it’s for one belt and a lot of brehs agreed with that.

Cody is definitely ready but they could easily stretch this to SummerSlam. Tribal Chief and Bloodline story is the best they've had in years so why end it in a predictable way at Mania.
