A child has no business with a gun. A BB one included. Bad parenting. These children need to be taught better.
Well him playing with a gun got him shot. Why does a child need a weapon like this? Violence doesn't need to be taught.
Not to take away from the tragedy of this kid getting shot, but this is why you shouldn't let (black) kids play with bb guns. My mom used to beat my ass everytime she caught me with a toy gun and i never understood why. This is why.
God, I feel like shyt. I'm buying a new air rifle (not the same as an airsoft gun). I am an advocate for black gun owners and black hunters. I have a couple of real tools that I take to the range, and even though im carrying my shyt in locked cases, I still get doubletakes like "what is he doing here?" Ive been doubletaked in the field (hunting) too. People quick to approach me with "Whatcha got?" "You got a valid hunting license?"
I wouldnt even classify myself as a hunter as I can count how many times on my fingers how many times ive officially gone hunting but Ive never encounter other black people with rifles or other weapons (bows), ive seen plenty fishing though.
You can youtube, google, check gunners, hunters, airgunners, and other forums. Plenty of white people have their kids as young as 4 using them and they are quick to get praise and the equivalent of daps and replies like "Its great that your out there with your child, its important to teach safety etc etc etc."
I am a huge proponent of ethical kills, gun laws and gun ethics and I cant say its that we dont teach our kids the ethics. Id say for every kid (of any ethnicity) that knows or is at least taught safety and ethics theres more than 5 that just have a toy cap gun or access to a BB gun.
I started shooting for security, maybe someone is going to break in or confront me on the street (ccw). Then I kept shooting and kind of saw the sport in it, target, range, etc. I realized shooting doesnt have to be so serious. Then I broke into small game hunting. White people are so comfortable with guns, and like a black kid taught to play basketball they are taught to hold a gun and be comfortable. I figure, damn we live in America in 2012, why is it frowned upon that me (a black man) is attempting to become comfortable with guns?
Ive been turned away from ranges, made to wait 2 hours in hopes that id just leave. Told that due to the demand the rest of the lanes are for "members only". I already know a majority of the rules, not to take any gun related item that is not concealed from the gun range to the trunk of the car, i.e a scope, flashlight, cleaning kit, bag of bullets, anything.
I cant say this story is too biased, ive read countless local stories about kids getting suspended and expelled for bringing bb guns on school property (and they were white), there was the mexican kid in LA that was killed while carrying an airsoft rifle.
Its one of those things, where if they can do it, we can too. They are going to have to get over the stigma of a black man with any type of gun toy or real. We are going to lose a lot of innocent people in the process. However the main thing is to continue to grow and expand our network, we need black kids and young black people with qualified weaponry in the ranges and out in the field.
They want to box us in, if we can keep shooting in the hood, then of course we have no business at the range or hunting in the field and we are going to keep getting killed while holding a gun in walmart, leaving a gun shop or even a sporting goods store (bass pro, scheels, sports authority, dikks sporting goods, cabelas) with a weapon, in the front or back yard, walking down the street, etc.
Too many white kids on youtube missing teeth talking about "I jus killed my first ______" an are way below 11 years old. Yet we cant do it? Bullshyt.
