I still think that debatable, as the word suggests, invokes debate. It doesn't guarantee a hidden gem that MUST be classic, but to some it is and to some it isn't. I'm having an inner conflict with this album because I am really genuinely torn as to whether it is a classic or not. That's where the debatable comes from. But I KNOW The Infamous is a classic like I KNOW Cuban Linx is etc.

Essentially, these polls are here to uncover the debatable and see which side of the fence various albums lie on. We all know when I put up the polls for The Infamous, Reasonable Doubt etc. it is a formality, but I do it anyway.

You right.

Maybe I should focus on the quality. But I also have to be careful not to devalue the term, which was the point of this exercise anyway.

The first question i ask myself is, is this album high quality? The second question I ask myself is, when the album was released was there anything better in the same lane?

I find this ensures I'm really only promoting the highest quality albums to classics and also that I don't penalise the og innovators.

Murda Muzik is soooooooo fvcking good, but I can't call it a universally considered classic. It's a personal for me, though.

100% agree.

I voted no on it because...I don't know if it's still "universally accepted" as that.

When I come in these threads, I try to think of it like this:
- "what were the singles, and how do you think they are viewed today?"
- "are there any non-singles that are landmark songs?"
- "how does it hold up today outside of the hype it may have had when it was released?"

Murda Muzik is dope.
For point 1, "Quiet Storm" and "It's Mine" are dope...but I think "It's Mine" gets more props for Nas' verse than anything else.
There's so much more to it than that, but I don't think the average listener cares.

For point 2, I think "What's Ya Poison" is one of the greatest Mobb songs ever, and I think others would agree.
I think "The Realest" would qualify here as well.

For point 3...I think it's a sold album, and personally I think it's better than Hell On Earth (I know, I know...calm down).
But I think it suffers from the same thing as I Am in a couple of ways:

(1) it got bootlegged to death and so we had to wait for it.
If it wasn't for that and some of the changes that had to be made, I think the average listener is mad
that for as good as it was it's not as good as it could have been - so it's just another dope Mobb album.

(2) it was too..."non-grimy New York" like the albums before it, and some purists may resent that.

I think that's messed up, but that's why I voted no.

capitol punishment isn't a classic. bad skits, wyclef, a pointless intermission, and still not a playa prevent that. get rid of all that and add fire water/wishful thinking and then maybe.

the infamous is the only classic listed.

Whaaat?

CP skits is da ish, doe!!

Except for the one with him fuccin'. lol

I think it's good that the distinction was made...if you focus on the quality, then this becomes
a discussion of "which album is a masterpiece" instead of "which album is a classic", and there is a difference.

There are a good amount of classics, there are not a lot of masterpieces.

sidebar: Where the fucc is Yeeeeah Baby?

couldn't fit it due to poll restrictions and there is no way in hell it would be voted classic anyway tbh

It's crazy how Hav came with three different sounds for Infamous, Hell on Earth and then MM.

As I've said before Havoc is an elite producer. Like I still think he's more of a "stick to my lane" producer but there's no doubt he's mastered it. Kinda like Premo but a little different too. Best drums in hip-hop easily.
