Yeah,he seems like hes from that Cosby school of thought:mjlol:. But with Cosby you could see his works and black people had stories about what he had done for them. Ive never seen or heard any of that when it comes to Clarence. So im guessing either he hasnt,or black people are too ashamed to be associated with him. Or hes trying to maintain his cover:mjlol:

Clarence Thomas is very interesting (not in a good way) but I just need to know what made him flip. He came up in some of the most Black rooted environments and didn’t hold the views he has now. Some of his favorite book don’t line up with what he says or does. It almost like something jaded him. Like what event created this heel turn to be a complete enemy to Black people.
If what that recent documentary on him and Ginni is to be believed, seems like him realizing he's an ugly breh and his time at Yale sparked it all

Pure retribution. p*ssy ass so ashamed of the way he got exposed and has been sniping at liberals/activists/black people/etc ever since.

That type of porn habit doesn't just magically disappear...

How come I never hear people call for dems to be proactive about shyt, why is it always the voter fault

citizens don’t vote for the courts, what have dems been doing all these years for the courts to be like this
They vote in people who appoint judges, though. A very very hard lesson is being learned regarding this right now.

It was a different era. A lot of senators in that age felt pressured to "vote for the nominee regardless of how bad they are so long as they're minimally qualified."

The very next judge was Ruth Bader Ginsberg, nominated by Clinton, and she got in by a vote of 96-3 despite being an extremely reliable liberal judge. For Thomas to only get 52 votes was a very bad performance. He actually lost the vote of two Republicans who represented liberal states, but picked up 11 Democrats, nearly all of whom represented conservative states.
Yeah that was pre Newt Gingritch. Things ran a lot more differently in '90. Newt really started the hyperpartisan wave with the right. Stuff like the Tea Party and maga are indirectly his brainchildren.

Republicans have been delivering tangibles non-stop for the bothsiders in '24..... :skip:
They probably welcome this, after all, integration wrecked havoc on the black family unit. If it wasn't for Brown vs. Board of Education, black people would live happily segregated in stable traditional families and practice group economics :troll:

To be fair, those 11 Democrats were almost entirely conservative Democrats (which was still a thing back then).

Most Democrats voted against him, and almost all Republicans voted for him (and a Republican president nominated him).
You can't expect dudes here to actually research. Least amount of knowledge yet loudest voices in the room.

And what have the appointed dems been doing, ain’t no way they didn’t see this outcome coming

You mean the appointed Dems on the Supreme Court? They're outnumbered 6 to 3. What could they have done?

Democrat appointees haven't had a majority on the Supreme Court since 1970, primarily due to that 1968-1992 stretch where Republicans controlled the White House for 20 out of 24 years due to White backlash against Black Civil Rights (so much for Democrats supposedly doing that for votes). The Clinton/Obama years had them coming back a little, but Trump's election set them back again.

This was telegraphed by the far right legal community years ago and now Thomas is recognizing it in court. The same way they're telegraphing support for overturning Loving v Virginia in order the lay the groundwork for challenging gay marriage laws. These people show you their hand years and even decades in advance. It's up to you give a shyt.

If people don't vote...fine, whatever. I will spend zero time telling anyone to vote for Biden. I will simply state that I vote because of shyt like this. Because it's very clear that one party is hell bent on stacking as many white, racist, misogynist, anti-gay, pro child labor, etc judges on the courts as possible in order to create domino effects that end in things like...well, what we saw with Roe v Wade. There's a clear path to replacing Thomas and Alito, both of whom are older and may die. And Roberts suffers from seizures and may retire early for health reasons.
If Trump is elected Thomas and Alito will probably retire and be replaced with younger and more far right judges.

The Frontline documentary on him talks about his upbringing and why he is the way he is. They even interviewed his friends growing up who corroborated a lot of the things said.

The basic gist is
  • Growing up among black folks in the south, he faced a lot of colorism. He was very bitter and resentful about being hated on for his dark skin by other members of his own race
  • He goes to college dabbles in the black power movement briefly. Not so c00nish yet
  • His origin story into super c00nery seems to have started after graduating law school. This is not too long after civil rights and despite it being illegal to racial discriminate in hiring, the top white law firms pass him over and he has trouble finding work to match what he believes he deserves.
  • Instead of reasonably assuming that even though the laws has changed, whites who only a few years ago were able to blatantly discriminate against him are still racist and exclusionary as fukk and directing his anger at them, he blames affirmative action because he thinks it's the sole reason they will not give him the respect he deserves.
The rest is history from that point. Also, once republican power brokers started giving him gifts and giving him the lifestyle he felt he deserved in the 90s, that became his only motivation. So now he is a bought and paid for c00n for the rich republicans. That's it.

The only lesson for black people I do think they should learn from his story is that, colorism and the way we treat each other in our formative years does impact a lot of people's self esteem for the rest of their lives. I don't think it's as bad as it used to be but we should treat each other better in this regard.
Colorism is a terrible thing and has consequences. There are probably a lot of black people who've gone to the dark side because of it. Its no excuse to become a c00n though.
