Without playing Metaphor, but knowing SEGA well. I'm gonna assume what you're talking about was baked into the design
And if it wasn't baked into the design, then it would be just a rewind feature that comes with most retro reamkes these days.

Its not a rewind it just restarts the battle saving you a “game over” screen and trek back to the boss

you can’t just backtrack through every mistake you made.

Sure didn't save my ass from that fire dragon near the end. Just had to chock that day up as a loss and come back later. That whole dragon side quest was hard a s balls. Final fight pissed me off.

I forgot to mention, the drip on these cats is nasty. Maelle and some of the others on the expedition drip too much, should've shipped the game with a rag.

PC brehs, use this Nexus Mod to help get rid of the overly sharp look. Open the file and search "sharp" and change 0.5 to just 0, there should be two entries. Put the file in the folder specified in the Nexus description, it's different for Steam and Game Pass. And remember to change the file to Read Only once it's in the folder. They need to patch the visuals ASAP on PC.
