The movie was amazing, if Nolan went with an rated R version with more blood/gore shyt would've been a classic. Nolan fukked up

But that's the beauty of this movie. We've all seen the casualties of war time and time again as vivid as can be. Why not take a different approach to it and show how those who suffered triumphed without exploiting the horrors with blood or gore.

Strong chance it becomes my favorite Nolan film.

One question...not sure if I missed something... but how did Murphy's character end up stranded when Rylance rescues him? I'm guessing it happens off screen and goes unmentioned. But that seems like a missed opportunity.

That boat he was in on the flash back at night got torpedoed IIRC.

Nah, couldn't be that little dingy. He was stranded a massive propeller. He had to have taken that load to a destroyer or something similar and then been torpedoed.

I watched it a 3rd time and this is what I presumed happened. The destroyer sunk, Tommy, Alex and "Gibson" swam to the row boat that Cillian Murphy's character aka "the shivering man" was on. "Gibson" was able to get on but Tommy and Alex weren't allowed as told by Cillian Murphy's character. So, Gibson was tossed them a rope and Tommy and Alex held on while the rest rowed back. Now that next morning, CLEARLY they made it back on the beach. So what happens to Cillian Murphy? My suspicions was he said "fukk it" and tried to swim that English Channel. There was that one famous scene while Tommy, Alex, and "Gibson" was sitting on the beach and watched this man toss his shyt and walked into that English Channel like fukk this. If it aligns with the timeline, it is reasonable to presume that was "the shivering man" that Dawson's yacht rescued. It explains how he was just by himself on top of the sunk destroyer, and it matches with the timeline between Tommy, Alex, and "Gibson" seeing a man going into the English Channel and when Dawson's yacht meet up with him. My best presumption was he tried to swim across and couldn't.

Also, it was INDEED Ferrier (Tom Hardy) and accidentally shot down the boat that Tommy, Alex and "Gibson" and the rest were hiding in while trying take down that German fighter jet. Crazy for Nolan to show one perspective by the soldiers in the boat and the reality of what really happened.

That seems like a stretch. If only because he seems so much more together on that dingy that he did on the propeller. He's SHATTERED by that point, which suggests to me that something else had to have happened in between.

You gotta understand they were ALL in the feels. Cillian Murphy may had it together the night before, but imagine that day after, then sitting there on the beach for good KNOWS when, and suddenly you are desperate and tried to take your chances. Plus trying to swim 30 MILES. Desperation make you do crazy things.

It's the only logical explanation. Everything in this film is linked one way or another, and after watching it 3 times, there was no better explanation. He was on that row boat that Tommy and Alex tried to get on and Gibson was ALREADY on. And that boat made it back. So Cillian Murphy was obviously back on the beach before heading back out. You saw other people desperately trying to row out there and you saw a man just go straight in.

I just don't know why if it was something that both simple and substantial, Nolan wouldn't have put it in the film.

Because in war, people snap that QUICK. He may of been trying to hold it together because he was in charge that night when the destroyer got struck, but between how many some odd days they was stuck on that beach and as I said, you SEE someone just gave up waiting and hit that English Channel like all hope was lost. It make A LOT of sense. PSTD is unpredictable in general. A person can be cooler than a fan and in a split second for the littlest reason they'll snap. These soldiers were stranded for almost a week...with the ongoing threat that they could die ANY MINUTE. It makes sense for even the strongest willed individual ending up snapping when there's no sight of hope.

I buy the snapping. I mean I just don't know why he wouldn't leave a clue as to how he ended up on that propeller.

I still LOVE the movie, but that little bit seems like either a missed opportunity or a lame 'gotcha' gimmick.
