his older brother made the story up so his brother be remembered heroically. We had an earlier conversation on how Nolan was suggesting how Dunkirk was romanticized and promotes for propaganda whereas the true hero's like "Gibson" the accused German mole goes unknown

You guys got it all wrong.

Rylance's character (the old man) had a son who was in the RAF and died earlier in the war. That's why he went out to Dunkirk himself instead of letting the navy take command of his boat as seen in the beginning. The boy who died was not family, he was a friend of the old man's son who simply felt he had to do something too.

By the way, you guys are wrong about Gibson too. He was not a German mole, he was a French deserter who stole a British soldier's uniform because the Brits were evacuating while the French were fighting to hold the Germans back.

Side-note, it's kinda funny how @FlyRy conveniently stopped updating the RT and Metacritic scores in the title once they started dropping. :sas2:

Saw it. Big fan of most of Nolan's work. Other than the spectacle, can not fathom how anyone can enjoy this movie. Except maybe veterans. Think a lot of people are trying to convince themself or lying to themself, which is stupid, cause really, we gonna do this all for a Director?
What issues did you have with the movie?

As if a 94 on metacritic and 91 % with a 8.6/10 average rating is anything to scoff at :smugford: :camby:
