Just off the top of my head I can call a grip of performances by actors of color that were worthy of nominations:
Samuel L. Jackson in The Hateful Eight
Idris Elba and Abraham Attah in Beats of No Nation
Will Smith in Concussion
Benicio Del Toro in Sicario
Oscar Isaac in Ex Machina
Put weeknd and wiz

This is a waste of time. Black filmmakers should put more emphasis on producing Black films that go on to be box-office blockbusters, because that alone will create more roles and opportunities for them. Winning an Oscar alone is worthless to a Black person's career. Anybody want to tell me where Monique is today? How about Lupita Nyong'o, does she have any major roles lined up? When's the last time Jennifer Hudson had a major role in a big movie? How about Forest Whitaker? He gets supporting roles, but no real juicy starring roles.

The key to Black filmmakers success is in generating major worldwide box-office revenue. Forget about award shows for now, they're close to pointless.

:francis:@ this argument always coming up. You can fight for social justice and things like this.
They're busy building their communities and making money to worry about silly things like oscar nominations. a Chinese man recently bought legendary pictures, one of the biggest studios in Hollywood. That's where we should be focusing our energy. How exactly did Denzel or Halle winning oscars change your life?

:rudy:Man shut up. This isn't about changing my life. Just because something doesn't directly affect me means that I shouldn't care? Black people are clearly being mistreated in a business industry. The same institutional racism in hollywood also shows up in more "important" industries.

You think other minorities dont want to see themselves more represented?:shaq2:

But here's the thing... Creed and SOC get reviewed better than Trumbo. They had way more recognition than Trumbo. Yet Cranston still gets nominated :deadmanny:

:what: Michael B fukking Jordan and a bunch of bums from Straight outta compton versus the individual acting of Cranston? Come on man. Trumbo is fukking Oscar bait. It's political bullshyt and it's the same political bullshyt year in and year out. The academy is a joke, but fukk outta here if people think it's some travesty that Cranston, a phenomenal actor, is getting nominated because of an Oscar bait role, that's what that movie is for.

Getting awards is all about getting the right role. Nothing more, nothing less. Great actor cast into a great role = instant best actor/actress nom.

Why does anyone give a fukk? Boo hoo. A bunch of narcissistic liberal pedophile fakkits (literal fakkits) aren't nominating black actors. After 12 Years a Slave Hollywood pretty much said they were good with giving black people any awards for a while.

That aside, there weren't any black actors worth nominating. None were casted in any oscar bait roles and none of their performances were remotely oscar worthy. Closest you had was Will Smith but he was horribly miscast in that role. Forrest Whittaker looks more like the actual doctor and he's 10x the dramatic actor that Will Smith is.

Benicio did get screwed tho lowkey, but the dude in Ex Machina was kinda shaky to me actually.

There were plenty of black actors that should have been nominated

No there weren't man. Lemme guess. Will Smith? Hell no. He sucked. Michael B. Jordan. :mjlol: There were no Oscar bait roles with black actors. People need to quit bytching. THis is how hollywood works.

Unless there's a MLK biopic coming out or Denzel isn't starring in some shytty action movie, nobody is getting nominated.

I thought Michael B's performance was better than Cranston. Why was Cranston's better? And you are making no sense. In one sentence you mention how Jordan's performance doesn't measure up. Then in the next sentence you mention politics:aicmon:
