It's the industry, not the Oscars. The only black dudes who had a chance at getting nominated this year were Elba, Smith, and Michael B. Jordan. Smith's film didn't have the reviews (and he got nominated twice before, so don't give me any bullshyt about the Academy being too racist to nominate Will Smith, Elba had the Netflix problem, and Michael B. Jordan got "good, not great" reviews. The problem is in CASTING, not awards bullshyt which comes from what's already out there. People are talking in circles and sounding retarded. They need to ask why Laurence Fishburne, Don Cheadle, Bassett, etc. aren't working with top people instead of repeating this shyt like Michael B. Jordan is gonna have more clout than other snubbed people like Depp. Hollywood is racist in that it doesn't cast blacks, asians, hispanics, etc. in any fair proportions, but that's the real problem.
Should be the most dapped post in this thread. Black actors and actresses aren't cast as much as their white counterpart. When a script is going around they should offer the part to more people of color and not just white people.

I wish black actors got together and all got their Tyler Perry semi autonomy on. Similarly I wish black folk were more unified and supported said efforts. Of course the first step would require weaning themselves from massa's teat which would prove, with no hyperbole, traumatic for many. And so the wheel turns.

Black folks always crying because whitey doesn't accept them:scust:
Most these nikkas in here is fake mad anyway, they weren't thinking about no Oscars...
What significance is there to some awards that nobody remembers were given out anyway? Plus these events are lame as a college philosophy class, so I wouldn't want to be there anyway. If I was an actor fans and industry peers showing me love and telling me they appreciated my work would mean way more than some award from a faceless panel of cacs.

Hopefully Rock is funny and gives out that work to white actors, but if he was really that mad about it he would be boycotting instead of telling jokes about it

This is the only post that matters in this thread. Caring about The Oscars is like crying about not getting a Grammy. None of these awards should be seen as a barometer for quality. Both are influenced heavily by inside politics and have more to do with how well your team is able to charm the voters behind the scenes rather than your own performance.

What pisses me off is the lack of opportunities for black actors and directors. We need more representation and quality on screen.

Straight Outta Compton is a good movie but nothing Oscar worthy...any protest by the makers of that movie just come off as trying to hype up DVD sales before the launch which is coincidentally on the 19th.

All in all, I'm not sure if it's "race" that actually has anything to do with it. I really believe that you have to be "in" within a certain circle of people and I believe that the producers, directors etc of whatever film is being nominated have to be connected to...it's all business and politics.

I never see it as anything based purely on merit

Then how is the screen play considered Oscar worthy?
