The Oscars are more political than anything. if your studio isn't making that push, you really think they'll care? Aside from the roles that they can't ignore, you don't get one without a studio backing petitioning for you. Now, in general, you can't refuse to play the Hollywood industry game but expect Hollywood accolades. It just doesn't work that way. Not in Hollywood or any industry. You have to petition for the nod.
I stand by what I said that black actors need to go out for movie outside of their box. Like Michael B is doing, so his time will come. I don't think he did anything superior in Creed though. The ONLY reason that Sly is nominated is a legacy award for giving us Rocky. Best Original Screenplay for Straight Outta Compton is pretty good. I don't think it was Best Picture worthy, then again a lot of the films don't be. And I think they only Oscar-quality performance was Kevin Mitchell as Eazy, but the film failed in taking him out of the movie for the 2nd half when it shifted to Cube & Dre. I hope it does win, but up against the Coen Bros is tough.
Honestly, I have no idea why Mad Max was nominated, so I will guess probably so that they could ignore Hateful 8. They Academy really doesn't like Q, so any chance they can ignore him, they do.
But stop going out for race-related movies only. Just go out for any role, like Will, Samuel L, Morgan Freeman, Denzel, now Michael B Jordan...there's plenty of talent that you can get those roles other than bio-pics, comedies and hood flicks. I want to see a black actor go up for Brilliance, especially given the premise and everything going on today. Will was attached but backed out, Jared Leto followed suit and backed out. It's up for grabs, potential to be an Oscar winner and blockbuster. Idris, go up for it, Ealy go out for it,.
I didn't hear a peep from this guy till he was snubbed for selma now he chimes in? Same for jada, was there not a problem before Wil Smith didn't make the final list of nominees? Now we need to boycott? These cats are millionaires their problems don't reflect mine
OG Aunt Viv is still not over losing her gig on Fresh Prince apparently.
I agree with the fact the choose the wrong time to do it but at the same time they are asking Black People that were supposed to go to the Oscars to boycott to send a message they are not asking us to do shyt. Can you imagine Oscar night if Chris Rock is the only black person in the building and spend the whole night roasting the cacs in attendanceI didn't hear a peep from this guy till he was snubbed for selma now he chimes in? Same for jada, was there not a problem before Wil Smith didn't make the final list of nominees? Now we need to boycott? These cats are millionaires their problems don't reflect mine
How come we don't see Asian or Hispanic groups crying about this shyt? theyre too busy worrying about shyt that really matters than some pat on the back.
They're busy building their communities and making money to worry about silly things like oscar nominations. a Chinese man recently bought legendary pictures, one of the biggest studios in Hollywood. That's where we should be focusing our energy. How exactly did Denzel or Halle winning oscars change your life?
I get that you guys want to go with this whole self-empowerment angle, but pushing for that and wanting to be acknowledged for your current contributions are not mutually exclusive. By framing ever complaint by black people as begging, you're accepting the rhetoric of white supremacy. Second, Nollywood makes low quality films from a production perspective that will never blow up. As of like 2013, most Nollywood films were being released on DVDs still, not even blu ray.Make quality black films, look at nollywood Nigerians don't sit around waiting for whitry to green light films
