the problem is, billionaires like Tyler Perry, Oprah, are content with coming together to make chitlin-circuit level programming and movies.

IMO, they have enough money to search for talented script writers, bright minds who can create something 'different' for Black folks to venture into.

I mean, Hollywood takes chances, loses money sometimes.

this has nothing to do with oprah's money or Tyler, this has to do with a lack of imagination and creativity in black Hollywood. we need a24 hour news service, we need a black movie club where movies are played by request from cable customers, not by the owners. where are the live music concerts??? where are the black talk shows??? where are the black Oscars????

Actually, I wish Smith would get back on this film and I was disappointed when he dropped out of it. The premise sounds very interesting and it along with Suicide Squad(hopefully) could get him back on the right track. If not, then yeah, Elba should be all over this.

The allusions to the Black Lives Matter, shoot on sight, everything that comes out of Trump's mouth, this movie is primed for a black lead. And it's sci-fi, a political thriller, potential franchise - that's how you make Hollywood pay attention, if that's what you desire.

Maybe Michael B will sign on for it?

That's the problem. They aren't though. Black movies are black movies and speak to no one but black audiences. They're as much a cliched and stereotypes as the "black role in a white flick", even moreso. Oscar campaigns begin before the movie even comes out, and that doesn't happen for black movies. Jada and Chris Rock have never had Oscar worthy perfances in their lives. Don Cheadle hasn't for a few years, but he may get the nod for the upcoming Miles Davis flick. The closest is Jason Mitchell for Straight Outta Compton, and no one even petitioned for him.

You can't hate on Viola though. She got her Oscar nod then got her own show on a network, where she plays a professor/lawyer. And it's good. She also now has her pick of any movie that she wants, and any role that she assumes will be forever looked at. That's how you do it, but you don't go from that back to hood flicks.

As for the roles they assume, remember when the Oscars were only giving nods for cross dressers, transexuals and retards? And these were white roles. It hasn't really changed.
