We need to get back to when the BET Awards WERE our premiere show. shyt has gotten c00nish, cartoonish, and ru\bbish in recent ears but I remember when it was really a great show and showcase for black talent

BET awards might be a lost cause, at the rate it's going. Are there any other alternatives that can get pushed? The Image awards perhaps?

:comeon: A BET Award isn't worth shyt.

and why not? whats makes an an oscar more important?

well BET hasn't been Black owned since like 2002 soooooo that might have something to do with it. I believe TVOne is tho, if they could get their act together, we might stand a chance

I want to see a black actor go up for Brilliance, especially given the premise and everything going on today. Will was attached but backed out, Jared Leto followed suit and backed out. It's up for grabs, potential to be an Oscar winner and blockbuster. Idris, go up for it, Ealy go out for it,.

Actually, I wish Smith would get back on this film and I was disappointed when he dropped out of it. The premise sounds very interesting and it along with Suicide Squad(hopefully) could get him back on the right track. If not, then yeah, Elba should be all over this.

meh...honestly the only one that had an Oscar worthy performance IMO was Elba...but then again that's a netflix movie so I don't know how the Oscar committee views that.

Straight Outta Compton is a good movie but nothing Oscar worthy...any protest by the makers of that movie just come off as trying to hype up DVD sales before the launch which is coincidentally on the 19th.

All in all, I'm not sure if it's "race" that actually has anything to do with it. I really believe that you have to be "in" within a certain circle of people and I believe that the producers, directors etc of whatever film is being nominated have to be connected to...it's all business and politics.

I never see it as anything based purely on merit

the oscars is suppose to be used as a networking factor for black artist to update one another profile, instead, we go there for the afterparty and meet our idols.
:ohhh: I'm listening to this podcast and this man said the same thing

black people go to party and white people show up for business :wow:
