saw it yesterday and it was dope overall, only major problem I had (besides the "love conquers all" horseshyt) was the tesseract scene

why did he try the book method to get his past self to stay, did he totally forget that it didn't work?

also if he really wanted to change the past he should've done nothing while he was in there, the only reason why he ended up on the mission in the first place was cause of that "gravity" message he sent during the dust storm

ending bothered me too, *finally meets his 90 year old daughter* "hey you missed my entire life but don't bother trying to catch up or get to know the rest of your family, go steal a ship and check up on anne hathaway who should be about 120 years old now :mindblown:

You gotta remember, first of all, that Cooper from his point of view, been away for several years himself. Even before his team reached the wormhole at the beginning that was already 2 years. I am sorry, maybe you have excellent memories but I struggle remembering SPECIFICS of things that happened even just a week ago, let alone a number of years ago. So, Cooper, who's already emotional and FINALLY seeing things from little Murph's perspective, couldn't possibly remember details of himself. It's almost like Scooge and the ghost of Christmas Past, he witnessing how ignorant he was for abandoning his child like that and was hoping he could change the past.

This was all before him realizing that "THEY" didn't want him to change the past but help form the future. The film already stated that nothing is capable in changing the past, when they happened they happened. But you can already plant seeds to the future. Basically a cause & effect.

As for the brief reunion, I agree it was ineffective on an emotional level, but story-wise it was perfectly fine. You have to understand, as stated in one of her videos to him, she long gotten passed him being away. At her old age though, she believed that one day she will see him again before she died. So, her life was complete when she finally reunited. She was on the her deathbed already and got her own family. Them two are basically strangers and Cooper like an outsider. Also, Cooper didn't want to be on that space station no how, for the same reasons as that he had while on Earth, he's an explorer by nature, that's all he really cared of doing. Being on that station he lacked the sense of purpose. Murphy giving him the okay was ALL he wanted which he NEVER gotten before the last time. So, her okay gave him the incentive to dip out and travel.

As for Anne Hathaway., yea. she'll be an old fossil. If she's still alive. But this was merely an excuse to give Cooper the okay to leave out and explore like he wanted to.

Ok so I thoughht it was ok. Not bad by any means. The visuals are awesome and the acting was on point especially from tarvis and the other robot helper who's name I can't remember right now but it's the same problem I had with inception to a degree: there are barely any characters in the movie. Everyone is mostly there to be Basil exposition and most of the dialogue served to move theories forward and explain science as opposed to character or moving the plot forward (most, not all). I get the science that the movie was trying to convey and what it had to say about time, space, black holes, the planet, etc. but the movie seemed to intent on explaining to me stuff instead of making for compelling narrative. Damon's character is probably the worst example of this as he served as a cipher to put forth ideas about death, life, and survival. When a character dies in the movie and it's supposed to be compelling and sad, it really comes off as "meh" because I have no idea who this guy is minus the scientific jargon he spits out at a pretty impressive clip.

I like the ambition and I like the ideas the movie puts forth but this idea that characters only have to serve as a way for the writer and director to explain to the audience every single idea they have or every philosophical theory is crazy to me and that's twice now that Nolan has done that in a movie

Bruh I mentioned this earlier, but isn't it possible Brand has only been on the other planet for a short time? They completely miss calculated on the time dialation for the water planet. Murph even mentioned in her last words that she was settling in for her first night on the planet. It may have not been literal. But I'm thinking with there new tech, Coop might reach Brand relatively quickly in her time frame

Remember, brand got ejected BEFORE Coop fell into Gargantua. That's where Coop got separated from the rest of the 3rd dimension universe physically, and in time. So she probably landed on that planet about 50-100 years before Coop got ejected.

But he still came back to our universe in that time frame, he just didn't physically age. That 50-100 years ago was relative to earth I believe.

Much like the water planet, traveling near the black hole greatly increases time dialation. I'm assuming Coop falling through reduced his exposure to the dialation

It wasn't about reaching her quickly but the fact that 60-70 years done lapse while Cooper was IN the black hole.

You gotta remember, the closer you get to the singularity, the SLOWER time moves. So the second after she ejected, she was already YEARS apart from Coop at that point. Add into the equation that he actually went inside. I'm my mind, that means time practically stood still for him, while the rest of the universe moved forward.
