Duuuuuvaaaaal!!
In all forms of art, there is a tipping point when intellect interferes with the ability to be entertained. If you can't find a balance, you are likely a miserable person.
Total Truth!
I went in with low expectations and allowed myself to just be entained. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie because of that too. I waited until AFTER the movie to try to wrap my mind around the deeper things.
The only thing I have not yet gotten a grip on, is:
I am not %100 sure that humans sent the wormhole. Sure there could've been major relativistic/time paradox, but I just can't accept that 5th dimension humans (either Brand's branch, or the decendants of those who left Earth), opened the wormhole. There MUST be a 3rd party that we were not told about. [/spolier]

stick to Transformers and Fast Furious type movies.

j/p I really enjoyed but I can see why the movie lost a lot of people. If you have no understanding of General Relativity and other theories your going to be lost. Also, you must have some sort of appreciation for science fiction.

Also, did anyone understand Dr. Mann's intent? Also, how exactly did Cooper relay the quantum data to his daughter towards the end. I didn't get it.

:russ:

everyone's entitled to their own opinion but dude doesn't seem to like ANYTHING from his posts

these two negative reviews made me :ehh:

"At its best, the film is illuminating in the way that "Contact" was, at its worst it's dull, pedantic and overly expositional the way "Contact" was."

"Christopher Nolan's Interstellar is desperately reaching for Stanley Kubrick 2001 greatness and achieving Robert Zemeckis mediocrity in Contact. It's no small bit of irony that both films star Matthew McConaughey and his southern drawl."

what percentage of the casual movie going audience do you believe has an understanding of "general relativity and other theories" though? should that be a pre-requisite to enjoy a movie? i dunno sounds like a pretty small base to me.

anyways it wasn't that. i was just bored to tears. didn't care about any of the characters and the story was just wayyyyy too jumbled for me to give a fukk. maybe if the movie had gripped me from the start i might have made a stronger effort to commit but i was ready to bail about an hour in. i swear to god.

and of course per usual with nolan movies the characters are all stiff as a board and speak in long soliloquies so that they could spell out the themes of the movie for us.

i dunno it just wasn't for me. i will probably never watch that movie again.

lol i made a joke during the movie and said it should've been called LESSTHANSTELLAR :jawalrus:

I loved this movie..:wow:

Nolan is in to that metaphysics ish for real though. Not a bad thing, but might put some people off. I was entertained all the way though and didnt experience any dull moments.

I dont know how but i hope there is a sequel..Bran:sadcam:

I Was Literally :ohhh: all the way until the end. I don't know something about that black hole just being some rubber time capsule of books through me off. Like I get what he was trying to show, but I don't know, figuring out the universe on the fly like that was :patrice: I guess some shyt is just better presented in documentaries and articles. Movie was cool but theories just don't transition well on film.

That said I'm glad I don't have to live through that shyt. As much curiosity as I have about this type of stuff :whoa:. Water world and ice cloud world :damn:. It's crazy how good earth has been to a breh :mjcry:

I just came from watching a little while ago. It was straight, I'll give a B :ehh: prolly should've watched in IMAX. I loved the film's message... kinda worried that people out there who aren't so interested in science will lose sight of it in trying to understand what's going on :patrice:

Interstellar had quite a lot of flaws but unlike Dark Knight Rises I was more forgiving due to the sheer ambition and originality of the film. I'll give it 9/10, would have been 10/10 if the ice planet, editing, music & exposition were better managed.

Those worm holes though :ohhh:

It's weird. Some parts I felt really dragged on but others I felt could have used more time. I wanted to see them explore the planets a little deeper. For a three hour movie, I did feel like the time could have been allocated better. Still, the more I think about what I saw the more I like it. I'm going to stand firm with my 8/10 score but I feel like that could increase on a second viewing.. :ohhh:

The worm hole shyt had me like :lupe:

When
Matt Damon gets killed off

I literally jumped out my chair like :damn: :damn:

I knew it was coming but shyt still caught me off guard :pachaha:

I think the constant comparisons to Gravity are unfair to both films because they're not very much alike other than they're both set it space.

Gravity has an incredibly simple plot that just works for what it is. Interstellar tries to do way more plot wise and goes in completely different directions.
all the comparisons to this movie have been fukking retarded. this is a wholy original film on its own. I got ZERO 2001 vibes or any other classic scifi from it like I did with something along the lines of Prometheus which is heavily influenced by 2001
