The ending of that movie was terrible. In fact, when dr. Mann turned out to be a coward, it became obvious they ran out of material.

i was like why is this muthafukker acting like his character from talented mr ripley, and then I was like, "you could hurry up with this heel turn, Seth rollins, and stop all this exposition

all the comparisons to this movie have been fukking retarded. this is a wholy original film on its own. I got ZERO 2001 vibes or any other classic scifi from it like I did with something along the lines of Prometheus which is heavily influenced by 2001

Actually it paid homages to many sci-fi films....

the tone and message and overall story isn't anything like 2001

Right, the tone and message was about "Plan A" vs "Plan B". Either you are adapt and evolve or you accept your fate and start anew. Also the concept of love is uniserval and transcends time and space.

With that SAID, there's a lot of things from this film that were directly homages to 2001. Dr. Mann was this version of HAL with identical motivations. TARS & CASE were built like the monolith. The strategically placed wormhole at Saturn is similar to the signal strategically played at Jupitor in 2001. The entering of the black hole represented the entering of the monolith. You cannot ignore the fact it had MANY things from 2001 in spite of the tone and message completely opposite with that particular film.

I just came from watching a little while ago. It was straight, I'll give a B :ehh: prolly should've watched in IMAX. I loved the film's message... kinda worried that people out there who aren't so interested in science will lose sight of it in trying to understand what's going on :patrice:

IMAX presentation was riddled with sound mix issues. At least the 70mm prints.

Definitely negatively impacted my enjoyment of the film.

eh i can see it. there are times when this movie is practically BEGGING to sit at the same table as 2001. from the images, to the score... come on you can't tell me you didn't sense the similarities. i swear to god i was halfway expecting that robot tars thingy to turn on them at the end.

yeah, there are some minor similarities, but I'm talking about thematic similarities..the tone and overall story is totally different, especially when compared to something like Prometheus which it's story is HEAVILY influenced by 2001

Duuuuuvaaaaal!!
I know a lot y'all are gonna trip with this one, but for me, this movie shat all over 2001 in terms of ambition, scope and merging of science fiction and fact.
:yeshrug:
This movie might be the "hardest" sci-i movie ever. (hardest meaning closely based in science facts). Sucks we don't get more of these type of films. :mjcry:

Many points. The final voice over....the first time talking with TARS and the crew...when he was radioing for help after Matt Damon fukked him up.

It was brutal.

hmm.

it seems to vary. i saw some reports of audio issues on the blu forum. as I mentioned the only part I could not understand was what Michael Caine's last few words were.. but i got the gist of it from the subsequent scenes. everything else was perfect at my screening :manny:

I think Inarritu has the best director oscar on lock
